Speaking to reporters Monday during the annual end-of-the-season news conference, Broncos coach John Fox and vice president John Elway said under the circumstances they would again have quarterback Peyton Manning take a knee to run out the clock on the Denver 20-yard-line with 31 seconds remaining in regulation Saturday, Tom Kensler of the Denver Post reports.
"That (70-yard Ravens TD) was pretty devastating," Fox said. "There is a certain amount of shock value. It's like a fighter being on the ropes it didn't seem like the time (for Manning to take any chances and) to go for a knockout punch.
"It didn't seem to be the right time to go for the jugular. I'd do that again 10 times out of 10 if faced with that situation."
"Our guys were in shock (after that 70-yard Ravens touchdown)," he said. "I thought (running out the clock) was the right move."

On Saturday, John Fox and his coaching staff came under fire after questionable play-calling during Denver’s 38-35 overtime loss to Baltimore. In two weeks, Fox and his staff will be in Hawaii, coaching the All Stars of the American Football Conference.
Because the Broncos were the highest seed to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs, their coaching staff will be responsible...
John Fox is a NFL football coach.
One of his primary responsibilities is to deal with the world at large when things go wrong.
On Monday he sat before the media with his boss Denver Broncos Executive V.P. of Football Operations John Elway and faced the music after his group failed to advance to the AFC Championship Game.

With under a minute to go in Saturday's AFC divisional round game between Denver and Baltimore, it looked like the Broncos would win with under a minute remaining in regulation
And then Joe Flacco hit Jacoby Jones for a 70-yard touchdown to tie the score at 35-35. Denver then elected to take a knee and head to overtime instead of taking a few shots to potentially set up a game...
John Elway has been down this lonely road before.
The quarterback-turned-front office executive has now been a part of two playoff runs that ended not in the confetti-filled celebration expected of the AFC's No. 1 seed but with a painful introspection about what all went wrong in a stunningly early exit from the postseason party.
Elway experienced it as a player in 1996, when...
Broncos coach John Fox has taken a lot of heat for Denver’s two kneeldowns before halftime and overtime in the Broncos’ 38-35 loss to the Ravens last weekend. But should he be?
Fox is known for being conservative (often overly conservative, actually), but against Baltimore, kicker Matt Prater had already missed a field goal earlier in the game and Fox obviously did...
Even after the Baltimore Ravens rather miraculously came up with a game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter Saturday, the host Broncos had a chance to take the game in regulation. Peyton Manning at quarterback, 31 seconds and two timeouts left, needing 40 yards or so to be able to take a shot at a game-winning field goal.
And so the Broncos
took a knee?
Elway and Manning in defeat.
Well, the dust has settled, and reality is starting to creep its ugly head into our minds. I’m still not sure I believe what my eyes showed me Saturday night, but I’m willing to start believing that I’m not stuck in a 2 day long nightmare, and what transpired on the field really did happen. In a game full of head scratching penalties, non-penalties...
In the wake of the Broncos' 38-35 double-overtime loss to the Ravens on Saturday, Denver coach John Fox did not renew the contract of defensive backs coach Ron Milus and hired Cory Undlin.
This move was in the works for awhile, as Milus' coaching style clashed with several players over the past two years.
Undlin, who was the Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive backs...
The games aren’t even over yet, so we might get some more heroics and bizarre plays in the Pats/Texans game, but the Falcons and Seahawks seemed determined to come up with a game that was even more epic than Denver’s stunning collapse yesterday. Here’s some observations:
- Congrats to Matt Ryan. He sealed his “Matty Ice” nickname with two excellent passes starting at his...
Broncos president John Elway told reporters that they intend to pick up their two-year, $40 million (total) option on quarterback Peyton Mannings contract, according to ESPN.
This is hardly surprising given how things went for them in 2012, but its still a considerable amount of money to be paying anyone.
I dont think hes going anywhere, team owner Pat Bowlen said...
Still stinging from defensive mishaps in last Saturday's AFC Divisonal playoff loss, the Denver Broncos promoted Cory Undlin to secondary coach and did not renew the contract of Ron Milus, the team announced Tuesday. Milus was the previous secondary coach. The Broncos fell in overtime after allowing the Baltimore Ravens to tie the game with less than a minute to play in regulation...
Teams within the AFC West seem to like the coordinators from the Denver Broncos. Last season, the Oakland Raiders hired Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen as their head coach. Now, it appears that the San Diego Chargers will raid the Denver coaching ranks this season. CBS Sports insider Jason LaCanfora reports that the Chargers will hire Broncos offensive coordinator Mike...
