Jose Canseco is about one self portrait away from lopping off his own ear.
What you see there is the artistic representation of MLB commissioner Bud Selig, as done by artisan extraordinaire Jose Canseco. The disgraced slugger tweeted out the picture yesterday, claimed that he was indeed the creator of said artwork, then proclaimed that the one-of-a-kind piece is for sale.
I’m not sure what style of art Canseco was dabbling in (expressionism? surrealism? paint by numbers?), or what message he is trying to convey about the man who may or may not be blackballing him from the game of baseball. Is that a crudely drawn dragon vomiting blood, or some sort of unnamed horned monster with an engorged tongue and crazy red eyes. If Jose really wanted to capture his subject’s true essence, he would have had his Selig monster with a finger shoved knuckle deep in a nostril, an activity the real Bud Selig has been known engage in from time to time.
I’ve always wondered what steroid-fueled rage art would look like, and thanks to Jose Canseco and his Bud Selig masterpiece, now I know.
