With the Nationwide season a quarter of their way in, the JR Motorsports tandem of Cole Whitt and Danica Patrick make their way to Iowa for the first foray onto the 3/4 mile D-Shaped oval. With Whitt and Patrick running their first full seasons in the Nationwide Series for Dale Earnhart Jr’s personal team, they are looking to improve upon a relatively successful first quarter. They had some nice quotes coming into Iowa.

Cole Whitt-
“Our team really overcame a lot last weekend at Darlington after we hit the wall in qualifying. We took an unfortunate situation and worked as a team to get a solid finish out of it. It was great to see both the 88 and 7 crews working together to get the backup car ready. I think it said a lot about JR Motorsports.

“This week Iowa will be interesting. Technically, it’s a short track, but it doesn’t race like one. It seems more like a speedway than anything. It does give you options as a driver. You can move around in the corners try different lines and find a place where your car will work well.

“Our 88 car looks great this week with the Dew Crew paint scheme. I’m a big fan of our red TaxSlayer car, but this Dew Crew car ranks up there, too. I know it will be a packed house in Iowa, so I’m hoping we can get some new Dew Crew members this weekend.”
Danica Patrick-
“I’ve been told that Iowa is a great event for the Nationwide Series. From the looks of the people that fill the grandstands, it definitely is quite a show. This will be a weekend where the series regulars can battle it out, and you’ll get to see some new talent, so that’s exciting.

“It’s no secret that I enjoy racing on the mile-and-ahalf tracks. With Iowa being a short track that races more like a speedway, I think that will help me. It’s still a short track but you have a lot more speed and banking than you would at say, Richmond. I think those are characteristic that will translate well for our Go Daddy team.

“This is another big race for Go Daddy, too. They have offices in Iowa and there will be a lot of employees and their families at this race. It’s fun to get them all out the race and have them cheer us on.”
