The Colorado Avalanche have made headlines in 2013 for all of the wrong reasons. The team failed to figure out Ryan O'Reilly's contract, allowing the dispute to carry deep into the season before ultimately matching an offer sheet O'Reilly had signed with Calgary. The Avalanche also missed an opportunity to capitalize on this year's trade deadline, a sign that the club is seemingly unwilling to perform a necessary rebuild. The trend continues as one of the team's players, goaltender J.S. Giguere, has apparently had enough and voiced his displeasure to the media following his team's fifth consecutive loss. Giguere vented his frustrations about the team and called out his teammates for focusing on plans after the season while there's still games left on the schedule.  As seen in an article on CBC.ca, Giguere's comments prove that there is actually at least one player in Colorado that actually cares that the team is poised to miss the playoffs for the third consecutive year and for the fourth time in five seasons.  Giguere offered insights from the dressing room that are sure to anger Avs fans. "Some guys are more worried about their [Las] Vegas trip at the end of the season than playing the games, than playing every minute of the games." He added, "It’s embarrassing. I’m embarrassed to be here right now. … Quite frankly, I don’t care about your Vegas trip right now.” "I don’t know why we seem like we don’t care at points. Some guys are fighting to show they belong in the NHL, some guys are fighting for contracts. And it’s just embarrassing … the energy we have in the [dressing] room and the way we approach practices and the way we approach this game." If Giguere is telling the truth, we really can't fault the netminder for being so upset. In regards to the Vegas trip, Giguere's comments only prove what fans have suspected - the team isn't focused and isn't interested and it's showing on the ice. The Avalanche currently own the worst record in the NHL and barring a turn of events, should finish the year as the NHL's worst club. The CBC article mentions that it's possible Giguere's comments might have been made because the 35-year-old goaltender wants to move to a new team. Honestly, do you blame him?  (H/T CBC)
