This time last year, Manchester United had only lost three BPL matches, already scored 60 goals, and built a nine point cushion atop the Premier League table. This season, with Moyes at the helm and Fergie in the stands, United have already lost more than three BPL matches at Old Trafford alone, netted less than 40 goals, and fallen 15 points (seven places!) behind league leaders Arsenal. In other words, this year has been uncharacteristically challenging for the Premier League Era’s most successful franchise. With that said, the one silver lining to United’s 2013/2014 campaign of dysfunction appears to be the unlikely signing of Juan Mata. Despite scoring 20 goals, providing 28 assists and starting 55 games (in all competitions) for Chelsea last year, Mata failed to win over the defensive-minded Jose Mourinho this past off-season.
