After a week full of controversy surrounding his ever fluctuating weight, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. may not have put too many fans in the seats at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Saturday night during his bout with journeyman Brian Vera, but he did draw the largest boxing audience on a cable network this year according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports. Iole said the Nielsen Rating for the Chavez Jr.-Vera bout drew an estimated 1.4 million viewers despite only selling just over 4,100 seats in the 8,000 seat capacity StubHub Center. This proves despite his recent lack of enthusiasm in his training leading up to the last two bouts, that Chavez Jr. still carries a very strong fan base. Chavez Jr. was awarded a controversial unanimous decision Saturday, but the fight could have gone either way or been scored a draw and most would be okay with that.
