Bleacher Report:
FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal has learned that Boston Red Sox shortstop, Julio Lugo will be designated for assignment before Friday’s game.
This was a signing that should have never happened in the first place. I have no idea what Theo Epstein was thinking when he signed Lugo to a four-year, $36 million deal back in the winter of 2007.
If there ever was a player who didn’t fit in with this group of Red Sox, Lugo was it.
Goodbye, Lugo. I won’t miss you trying to blame the fan’s “negativity” even though the Red Sox were coming off of their second World Series title.
I won’t miss how you butchered groundball after groundball after groundball. And I certainly won’t miss the fact that you flat-out stunk for two and a half years.
The Red Sox will do just fine with Nick Green and Jed Lowrie at shortstop.
