Tonight, the Kansas State Wildcats will host the Kansas Jayhawks at the Octagon of Doom in the latest edition of college basketball’s Sunflower Showdown, and they are certainly look for revenge — less than a month ago, KSU traveled to Lawrence and got smacked by the Kansas, 86-60. The Wildcats have only gone 4-3 since that matchup, while Kansas has gone 7-1, but KSU is hoping that the change of scenery can also change the result. Wildcats coach Brucer Weber is concerned far less about the venue than he is his team’s mentality, however. This afternoon, he talked about how his players got “punked” at Allen Fieldhouse: Bruce Weber with quote of the day about KU’s physicality: “If we’re not aggressive, they’re just going to punk us again.” — Tim Griffin (@TimGriffinBig12) February 10, 2014 Bruce Weber says defense is the key for K-State vs. KU: “If we’re on our heels and not aggressive they’ll punk us again.” — Ken Corbitt (@KenCorbitt) February 10, 2014 No group of 18-22-year-ol

Conference Recruiting Update: Big 12

1. Kansas Jayhawks There perhaps is not enough adjectives available to describe the top shelf talented duo that Kansas brings on to campus from this class. With arguably the most talented player in the country in big man Cliff Alexander and a wing forward with NBA potential in Kelly Oubre, Kansas is stacked with young talent, once again. As […]

KU Freshman Joel Embiid Could Miss Time with Multiple Injuries

Kansas Jayhawks freshman sensation Joel Embiid has been struggling lately. He played just 18 minutes and scored six points in last night’s OT loss to rival Kansas State. Head Coach Bill Self is taking a look at the bigger picture and thinking of resting the big man: “I’m not going to make one excuse for him, because if you’re out there, you have to [perform],” Self said...

Kansas freshman Embiid dealing with ailments

Kansas freshman Joel Embiid could miss time with back and knee injuries, and just how much might determine whether the seventh-ranked Jayhawks still have a shot at landing a No. 1 seed in next month's NCAA tournament. The 7-footer has been dealing with a sprained knee and back trouble over the last few weeks, and he only played 18 minutes in an 85-82 overtime loss at rival Kansas...

Joel Embiid’s health, ball-screen defense concerns after Kansas loss at Kansas State

The final three shots and Andrew Wiggins took in regulation in Monday night’s loss to Kansas State are a pretty good representation of what this season has been like for him. In the final minute with a chance to tie the game, Wiggins airballed a three. A couple of possessions later, he beat his man off the dribble and got into the paint, but his runner bounced off the backboard...

Joel Embiid Staying in School?

Kansas star freshman center Joel Embiid has come out of nowhere this season, and is now considered a top pick for this year’s NBA Draft. Some experts have him going higher in the draft than his much hyped teammate Andrew Wiggins. Embiid however told ESPN, that he is really thinking about staying in college. “I’m not even thinking about it right now,” Embiid said. “I...

Kansas G Frank Mason Breaks Gary Browne’s Ankles (Video)

Lost in the Kansas Jayhawks almost 30 point win over West Virginia was this nasty crossover. Kansas’ little guard Frank Mason went barreling at West Virginia’s Gary Browne, and the result was this epic ankle breaking crossover that dropped Browne so bad he looked frozen on the floor. No word on whether or not Browne will need ankle supports for the remainder of the season.

Kansas big man Joel Embiid, who tops most mock drafts at this point, is going to miss some time with injuries to his knee and back. The 7-footer has been dealing with a sprained knee and back trouble. He only played 18 minutes in an 85-82 overtime loss at rival Kansas State on Monday night. Self said afterward Embiid is “going to need some time off,” but he wouldn’t say whether...

Much has been made of star freshmen Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid as No. 8 Kansas continues to prove itself an NCAA tournament title contender. Coach Bill Self, however, knows it will take a collective effort to be a tournament-winning team heading into Monday night's showdown at archrival Kansas State. Wiggins is averaging a team-high 16.0 points to go with 6.0 rebounds,...

Wiggins Watch: Episode VII

Monday night in Manhattan, Kansas the Jayhawks fell to the Kansas State Wildcats in overtime, 85-82.  This loss is the second in their past four games for Bill Self’s sqaud, but in no way do these losses fall on freshmen star Andrew Wiggins. Last week, I called for the freshmen to have a more cerebral game that didn’t involve him imposing pre-meditated shots, but rather, to...

K-State topples Texas 74-57 behind Marcus Foster’s career-high 34 points

Kansas State is far from a perfect basketball team, but the Wildcats occasionally appear flawless inside Bramlage Coliseum. A 74-57 victory over No. 15 Texas on Saturday was one of those occasions. The Wildcats were dominant. “They beat us in every way you can be beat,” Texas coach Rick Barnes said. “They played harder, they played with more energy, they were more physical...
