KELLY WANTS THE OPTION SO HE'S PICKING VICK.

Posted February 10, 2013

LOOKS like Michael Vick is trying to keep a contract that makes him too pricey to bench for any length of time, regardless of what roster he's on in 2013.

It also looks like the Eagles want his price tag to drop so they can move him if need be. At this point they couldn't move him for a 7th round draft pick because his contract would force teams to either burn up way too much cap space for a back-up, or jettison quality depth.

So right now we're sort of... stuck...with him unless they want to cut him. And that's the other side of the problem.

Chip Kelly doesn't have enough confidence in Nick Foles to call him the starter. Sure you'll hear him say stuff like "There'll be an open competition" or " The best guy will play" but you'll know it's BS when the 3rd stringer isn't in the mix and the depth chart still has Andy Reid's handwriting on it. Meanwhile Kelly is spending $3 million of the Eagles money to hold onto Vick, at least temporarily.

My guess here (and that's all it is, MY guess) is that like me, Kelly knows Vick is the best QB on his roster. Right now he has the OPTION of Foles, but if he cuts Vick so the the team can try to re-sign him for less, if Vick signs elsewhere, Kelly is then STUCK with Foles. It's option vs. stuck.

With a choice between the two you pick the OPTION.
