The Red Sox have bolstered their offense by adding Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino and Jonny Gomes. There’s still work to be done, however, and it all starts with the team’s pitching staff. As it stands, the Sox have some holes in their rotation, and you can bet Ben Cherington would like to add a hurler or two before Opening Day. If that is, in fact, the route Cherington goes in, he’d be wise to take a gander at either Kyle Lohse or Edwin Jackson. Lohse is coming off a career year with the Cardinals in which he went 16-3 with a 2.86 ERA. The 34-year-old is believed to be seeking a three-year deal, but if Boston can get him at the right price, it should take a flier. Lohse is a sinkerballer who would bring stability to the rotation, especially if he can replicate his 2012 performance. Edwin Jackson, while coming off a less impressive year, is another interesting option to consider. Despite going 10-11 with a 4.03 ERA last season, the 29-year-old righty has shown flashes of being a solid option in the past. The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo recently broke down the Red Sox’ offseason thus far, and discussed what the club could do moving forward. Check out his analysis in the video above.
