Lack of signing players during first day of free agency tells me the Eagles are content on losing
Now, I fully understood that the 2010 NFL free agent class was pitiful to put it nicely. But there were still multiple players to be had on the All-Pro level.
When the Eagles allowed defensive end Julius Peppers to get snagged up by the Chicago Bears, I understood the reasons. He's thirty and probably doesn't have as many years left to play at a high level. So passing on him I didn't fully agree with but I understood.
And when they cut linebacker Will Witherspoon, who we traded a fifth-round pick and a possible play-making receiver for, I thought it was to make room for Karlos Dansby. But then Dansby got snagged up by the Miami Dolphins.
The Eagles not getting Dansby pissed me off, but I was alright because we could still sign safety Antrel Rolle.
But now from what I have just read, Rolle has been signed by our arch-nemesis the New York Giants! If there was one position that we needed help with more then any other it was at Safety and the Philadelphia Eagles big wigs allowed the best safety on the market go to our NFC-east rivals, what the hell does that tell you my fellow Iggles fans?
Well I will tell you what it tells me, it tells me that Andy Reid, Joe Banner and new G.M. Howie Roseman have all but mailed it in for the 2010 NFL season. Not attempting to fill at least one hole with a top tier free agent is what losers who are content with losing do.

The only other difference maker on defense would have probably been Karlos Dansby. But again, you see how much the Eagles value linebackers. Especially with the suprise release of Will Witherspoon. Who actualy played really well in the beginning but disappeared near the end of the season. Is that who we REALLY want to go into the season with? He was about as effective as the rest of our back ups. And it was obvious when we lost to Dallas twice in a row.
Dunta Robinson and Antrel Rolle would have been nice pick ups. But again, how many Pro Bowl nods do they have between them? And how much would you really be paying for a player that isn't a HUGE difference maker?
The Eagles are obviously going in a new direction. Or at least going to rely on what has kept them successful over the years. The draft. Again, lucky for us the draft is almost catered to the Eagles needs. But now we will have to draft an additional linebacker to replace the ones we lost.
This years draft is very talented in both the safety and linebacker positions. The defensive ends are also pretty good, but there is a drop off after the top 3 IMO (Pierre Paul, Morgan and Graham). The release of Witherspoon almost makes you think that they are going to take Sean Weatherspoon with their first pick. Especially since NFL scouts project him to be a WILL linebacker at the next level. This would put us in a bind when it comes to filling the SAM position, but the coaches seemed to be high on Fokou and thinks he can do the job. If not, we could always pick up a SAM LB in the third round (since we have two 3rd round picks). Barring any unforseeable moves with restricted free agents and the current crop of free agents still available, it looks like our draft will go as follows:
1st LB Sean Weatherspoon (WILL)
2nd FS Nate Allen
3rd (possible trade back into the second): DE Tyson Alualu
3rd LB A.J. Edds (SAM)
4th Best OL/RB/WR (RB Joe McKnight or Ben Tate/OG John Jerry/WR DeMarryius Thomas or Jacoby Ford
Well..that's what I would do. Let's see if I get anything right. haha
The fact is, the Eagles didn't make the moves to get us to the Superbowl this year. So to me it only solidifies getting rid of Mcnabb and starting Kevin Kolb. IF they don't do that, then the season won't even be worth watching.
