According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Landon Powell has joined the Furman University Baseball team as a volunteer assistant coach. Furman University is located in Greenville, South Carolina. Their athletic department includes 20 Division-I teams, including baseball. Powell most recently played in the Mets organization, spending all his time in Triple-A with the Las Vegas 51s prior to being released in June. In 28 games for the 51s (69 at-bats), the catcher hit .159/.284/.290 with two home runs and three RBIs. He’s spent the majority of his career in the Oakland Athletics organization, who selected him with the 24th overall pick in the 2004 MLB Draft. Powell did register some major league time in Oakland, playing parts of three seasons from 2009 through 2011. He has a career line of .207/.284/.328 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs.
