FBS newcomer UMass will play Penn State in 2014 in an early-season nonconference game in Happy Valley.
UMass announced the Sept. 20, 2014 matchup in a statement over the weekend.
The game also allows Penn State coach Bill O'Brien to host a team from his home state. O'Brien was born Dorchester, Mass., and raised in the Boston suburb of Andover.

Joe Paterno's family turned down an offer by Penn State to rename Beaver Stadium after the late coach as part of a package deal that would have prohibited the family from suing the university, The Patriot-News reported Sunday.
A source close to the Paterno family told the newspaper that renaming the field "was never important to Joe."

Penn State's road game at Iowa will be aired on Big Ten Network on October 20, with a start time set for 8 p.m. Eastern. The following week, in Beaver Stadium, the Nittany Lions will host Ohio State at 6 p.m. on ESPN or ESPN 2.
