Adam Rubin of ESPN New York emailed Paul DePodesta a few questions regarding a few of the Mets prospects and regarding Wilmer Flores they had the following exchange: Asked if Wilmer Flores remaining in the minors is fielding-related, DePodesta wrote: “Wilmer played some first base largely because of the ankle injury. He had been back at second base the last couple of games now that he’s full strength. He hasn’t come up because the major league infield is full. David Wright and Daniel Murphy have been healthy until last night, and we have three other guys who could use ABs at first base.” It sounds like what DePo is saying is that even with Wright now out for as long as 4-5 weeks, Justin Turner, Ike Davis and Josh Satin will still keep Flores blocked and remaining in Las Vegas. It’s a shame, because in my opinion he really has nothing left to prove at Triple-A. I’m glad he didn’t blame his defense as a reason for not being promoted. As I mentioned this morning, an MLB scout who has w...

Here’s A Plan For The Mets On How To Use Wilmer Flores

What is going on with the New York Mets and prospect Wilmer Flores? Can we even call him a prospect anymore? His natural position is third base, but with David Wright on the disabled list they are not bringing up Flores. FLORES: Could he play first? It makes no sense unless the Mets have other plans for Flores. Reading between the lines, my guess is their long- range plan could be...

It’s time for the New York Mets to promote Wilmer Flores

New York Mets fans have waited long enough. The stars are aligned. It’s time to call up top prospect Wilmer Flores. While the rest of Major League Baseball talked PEDs and A-Rods, the Mets played baseball. Captain David Wright pulled up lame Friday night legging out an infield single against the Royals. He landed on the 15-day DL, opening up hole in the infield. GM Sandy Alderson...

Wilmer Flores Could Join Mets This Weekend In Arizona

I know I already said the odds were 50/50 on Fri, but I'm now saying it's 75/25 that Wilmer Flores is activated this week. #MMOPredictions — Mets Merized Online (@MetsMerized) August 5, 2013 Adam Rubin now reports that Wilmer Flores should be joining the major league club in the very near future, according to a  baseball source. Flores has been playing third base the...

Ike Davis Is Batting .317 Since All Star Break, But…

Ike Davis seems to be coming around in recent weeks. Last night, Davis went 3-for-3 with a walk and since returning from his demotion to Triple-A Las Vrgas on July 5, he is hitting .269 (18-67) with 17 walks in  23 games with a .417 on-base percentage ranking him fifth in the National League. Since the All Star break, the Mets first baseman has caught fire and is batting .317...

Ben Badler: An Opportunity for Wilmer Flores

Ben Badler of Baseball America put Mets prospect Wilmer Flores at the top of today’s Prospect Notebook. Badler notes that Flores is a very talented prospect that has the unlucky fortune of being in the Mets organization. Why is that? He’s a natural third baseman, but New York now has David Wright signed through 2020, effectively blocking Flores’ path to the majors at his natural...

New York Mets Prospect Wilmer Flores To Be Called Up Tuesday

Wilmer Flores will make his major league debut on Tuesday. PHOTO COURTESY: ALEJANDRA VILLA/NEWSDAY The Mets are still reeling after David Wright injured his hamstring on Friday night.  However, there appears to be some relief on the way in the form of a promising prospect that will get an opportunity to play. Infielder Wilmer Flores will be brought up to the major league club on...

Wilmer Flores Promoted To The Mets!

Happy (early) Birthday Wilmer Flores!! Flores, born on August 6, is on his way to New York!! — New York Mets (@Mets) August 6, 2013 Welcome to the show, Wilmer Flores! The Mets thought they could get this news by us at night, huh…? Nope! I feel pretty excited about this. Wilmer Flores was having a great year in Triple-A with .322/.358/.532 slash. He ripped 35 doubles, four triples...

With Wright Now On DL, Timing Seems Right To Take A Look At Wilmer Flores

It’s now official. The Mets announced that they have placed David Wright on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. As reported earlier, the Mets recalled Mike Baxter from Triple-A Las Vegas, and he is available for this afternoon’s game. However, I would expect, or should I say hope, that the Mets will promote Wilmer Flores at some point after the weekend and...

MMN Storylines: Montero And Syndergaard Shine, Flores Homers — Is He Ready?

So not only did Wilmer Flores play third base again — but he took Michael Wacha deep for his 15th home run of the year. Flores is approaching relatively impressive numbers for a full season of play (20 HRs, 100 RBI, .300+ average) and yet is still being kept down in Triple-A. The fact that he’s now gotten two consecutive starts at third feels like the ultimate tease, while all...

Mets Languish Behind Small Market Royals And Pirates

It wasn’t that long ago when New York Mets’ fans and media criticized the team’s lack of aggressiveness in the free-agent market with the smug comment: “This is New York, we’re not the Kansas City Royals or Pittsburgh Pirates.’’ The Pirates are in first place in the NL Central and might be the season’s best story, while the Royals take a nine-game hitting streak...
