David Lee is generating lots of interest in the early days of free agency; ESPN’s Chris Sheridan is reporting that Lee has been contacted by “eight or nine” teams, and that his representatives have already scheduled meetings with the Heat, Bulls, T-Wolves and Nets.
Lee could still be a major part of the Knicks’ plans for this summer. Just as LeBron James stands to make the most by re-signing with the Cavs and Joe Johnson can get the best possible contract by signing with Atlanta, Lee’s best financial move would be to re-sign with the Knicks.
Lee could help the 2010-11 Knicks even if he’s not on the roster; he could be a very valuable commodity in a sign-and-trade deal that might involve one of the big 2010 free agents or a player under contract elsewhere.
