Beyond The Buzzer:
Magic Johnson opened up in a candid interview with TMZ to support of his gay son, E.J. Johnson. In the video, released Thursday, Magic reveals initiating the conversation with his then 14-year-old son and learning he was gay and assuring his unwavering support.
Magic on his E.J. coming out:
“Look, I’m going to love you regardless. Just let me know, are you or aren’t you?”
“Finally he said, ‘Yes I am’”
Magic also told TMZ that his E.J. worried about his athlete father’s opinion upon telling him he was gay:
“As time went on, I think he really wanted to be out but he was torn,” Johnson said. “He really wanted to make sure I was OK. He wasn’t worried about his mom. … I think he was worried about what would I think. Am I going to change toward him or something like that.”
Magic says he’d love his son no matter the circumstance and adds that him coming out publicly through TMZ was good for him:
“I love E.J. so much. That’s my main man.”
“This was a good moment for us as a family. And a greater moment for him. Now he’s just the bubbly kid we knew again, and he’s just happy he’s out.”
