Magic Johnson opened up in a candid interview with TMZ to support of his gay son, E.J. Johnson. In the video, released Thursday, Magic reveals initiating the conversation with his then 14-year-old son and learning he was gay and assuring his unwavering support.
Magic on his E.J. coming out:
“Look, I’m going to love you regardless. Just let me know, are you or aren’t you?”
“Finally he said, ‘Yes I am’”
Magic also told TMZ that his E.J. worried about his athlete father’s opinion upon telling him he was gay:
“As time went on, I think he really wanted to be out but he was torn,” Johnson said. “He really wanted to make sure I was OK. He wasn’t worried about his mom. … I think he was worried about what would I think. Am I going to change toward him or something like that.”
Magic says he’d love his son no matter the circumstance and adds that him coming out publicly through TMZ was good for him:
“I love E.J. so much. That’s my main man.”

Discussing how long he’d known, how EJ came out to him and his feelings about the public’s reaction. Magic said he’s known for quite sometime that his son was gay. That he and Cookie sat him down to discuss it when he was about 12 or 13.
