Last week, many Twitter users were surprised to see Manti Te’o back on the social media platform — he had notably deactivated his account during the Super Bowl so he could focus on the upcoming NFL Draft. However, it appeared that he decided to join the Twitter world after most of his unusual controversy was behind him: Reactivated my account but lost all my followers. Retweet this to help me out! Thanks for all the support over the last couple months #808 — Manti Te’o (@MTeo_5) March 28, 2013 However, it appears that this account is a fake — both Manti’s father and his former teammates are trying to spread the word that it is not really him: @mteo_5 I just spoke to my son….who the hell are you? Manti did NOT reactivate his account. — Brian Te’o (@Laiepoint) March 30, 2013 @mteo_5 “bruddah”??? you’re not even Manti by that word alone. Give it up you won’t fool anyone else. — Brian Te’o (@Laiepoint) March 30, 2013 @minniesconnie –> @mteo_5 — Carlo Calabrese (@Carlo44Cal) March 29, 2013 @mteo_5 Is a Fake account — Romeo Okwara (@RomeoND45) March 29, 2013 Hopefully not too many people are fooled by the fake account, but it is interesting that they seem to have activated Te’o's old Twitter handle — they apparently have access to all prior tweets that Manti actually sent out when it was his handle. However, Twitter did remove the official “verified” checkmark that was next to that Twitter handle in the past. Watch out imposters, folks.
