Found July 23, 2013 on Fox Sports:
San Diego Padres pitcher Jason Marquis suffered a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will undergo Tommy John surgery as soon as next week, manager Bud Black said Tuesday. ''And I think as of right now, he plans on pitching again. He's going to give it a go, he's going to rehab and I think he wants to come back and compete,'' Black said prior to San Diego's game against the Brewers. The 34-year-old Marquis (9-5, 4.05) had lost three straight decisions over six starts. He went on the disabled list Sunday with what was listed as a right elbow strain.

Elbow strain shelves San Diego's Jason Marquis, leaves future in doubt

Is this the end of the Jason Marquis era in San Diego? That question and more are on the minds of suffering Padres fan everywhere today, as the Friars continue their descent into the bowels of the NL West. For the veteran Marquis, the possibility that he may have thrown his last pitch in 2013 is suddenly a probability. The right-hander began to feel elbow pain during his final...

Fowler, Kotsay, and the Mole

A month ago, the Padres were looking to add on and were considered to be contenders in the NL West. Injuries and reality finally took their toll, and a 3-16 record turned the Padres into admitted sellers. It’s been a strange month in Padres land, where things have been turned on their head and one man has done as close to nothing as possible. It feels just about right, because...

Jesus Guzman's offense finally leads to a win

Jesus Guzman turned to Edinson Volquez in the ninth inning Monday and admitted he “had a bad feeling.” Each of Guzman’s first five homers this season, including a pinch-hit grand slam at Tampa Bay on May 11, had either put the Padres ahead or tied the game. And the Padres lost all five of those games. “There were a couple other RBI hits where the same thing happened,...
