Source: Christian Petersen/Getty Images When defenseman Rob Scuderi and forward Craig Adams were signed today, it seemed highly unlikely that the Penguins could afford to bring back forward Matt Cooke. Considering the contract that he signed with the Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh definitely could not have afforded him. The Wild inked Cooke to a three-year, $7.5 million deal. Therefore, Cooke’s contract will have an average annual vale of $2.5 million, an increase of $700,000 from his previous deal. Cooke played five seasons with the Penguins and recorded 21 points in 48 regular season games with Pittsburgh this past season. He will now join Chuck Fletcher and Mike Yeo, who are very familiar with him, in Minnesota.
