General manager Doug Melvin hopes the Brewers can build on the second-half positives this season.
He also hopes it doesn't become a habit and Milwaukee can avoid another early slumber in 2014.
Melvin met with reporters Tuesday at Miller Park to wrap up the injury-riddled 2013 campaign. He likes what he has up the middle with Jean Segura at shortstop, Carlos Gomez at second and Jonathan Lucroy behind the plate.
Scooter Gennett also emerged in the second half to replace the injured Rickie Weeks. The starting pitching improved down the stretch, too.
But 22 losses in May hurt, as did the doping suspension of slugger Ryan Braun, who remains a part of the team's future.

I can’t imagine many Brewers fans took joy in yesterday’s news that the Cubs fired Dale Sveum. Although we’ve all had a good laugh at the Cubs’ expense over the last two years – with the Brewers going 26-10 against those jokers – it was a shame that Sveum had to take the fall. Even Cubs president Theo Epstein’s statement on the...
