Wednesday morning Mike Puma of the New York Post provided an update on the Mets rumored interest in free agent reliever Brian Wilson, stating that the team was left unimpressed by the 30-year-old’s recent workout and that former Giants closer “wasn’t deemed worthy of a major league contract at this point in his rehab from Tommy John surgery.”  That certainly would seem to put a damper on the Mets chances of bringing the Beard to New York as Wilson, according to Puma’s sources, wasn’t interested in a minor league deal. If you’re of the mindset that Wilson would be a welcome addition to a rather lifeless bullpen and, like me, were hoping the Mets would be able to get him at a reasonable price and at least see his value rise as he progresses throughout the year, then you’ll be happy to know there’s a bit of ‘he said, she said’ going on amongst the New York newspapers.  Tonight, Marc Carig of Newsday tweeted there’s still a chance the Mets would be willing to give Wilson what he wants; a major league contract. #bbpBox_291735969894383616 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_291735969894383616 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Source: Mets still haven’t closed the door on a major league deal for former Giants closer Brian Wilson. about 5 hours ago via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite @MarcCarig Marc Carig Game on. Game off.  Game on. Game off.  Only time will tell if the Beard will be in a Mets uniform when the music stops, but I’m hopeful that will be the case.
