Words of wisdom: It is better to remain quiet and appear a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.   Enter Ron err... Metta World Peace.   During a recent book signing (yes you heard me right) for his recently written children’s book, “Metta’s Bedtime Stories,” in downtown Manhattan, World Peace, had this to say about his former team the Lakers.   Via ESPN:   “"I think the Lakers are going to go to the NBA Finals.”   He went on to say,    "I think Kobe [Bryant's] gonna be healthy, they're gonna get Pau [Gasol]. The Lakers are gonna make a big trade like they always do. They're gonna get another good player, boom, boom, and they're gonna go to the Finals. I believe it. Kobe's gonna come back, he's gonna play team ball, and Pau's gonna play well."   Now I do believe that the return of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol will help make the Los Angeles Lakers a solid team that could sneak into the playoffs, he may not have taken a close look at the current roster of his former team.   The team is lacking that legitimate third option that will help lessen the regular season workload for Bryant and Gasol.  The team has players who are able to give you one or two break out games but nothing that can be expected on a consistent basis.   Much like last season, the Lakers are one major injury away from turning into a Western Conference cellar-dweller. We all saw what happened when they lost Steve Nash, and Bryant in the postseason versus the San Antonio Spurs.   Regarding that big-time trade, last time I checked you need to have assets another team wants in order to gain an asset which will help you get over the hump.   The path to the NBA Finals for any team in the Western Conference is not exactly a cakewalk. With the return of injured superstars alone (such as Russell Westbrook for the Thunder), the team emerging from the West will be battle tested and ready for whoever comes out of the East.   The folks in Houston have added a key component, with whom the Lakers are very familiar with, to team up with James Harden and Jeremy Lin. The Rockets in the last two off seasons have taken themselves from the outhouse to the penthouse.   The folks in Houston have added a key component, with whom the Lakers are very familiar with, to team up with James Harden and Jeremy Lin. The Rockets in the last two off seasons have taken themselves from the outhouse to the penthouse. Last but certainly not least, there is also the three "old" guys coming straight out of the Alamo City that are looking to get the bad taste of seeing an NBA title slip through their collective fingers. So Spurs’s fans, do you think the Black Mamba will slither his Lakers into the playoffs? Or is the Knicks newest player just full of it?
