It’s the final day of our Michigan State Preview week! Today we will be breaking down the Spartans schedule. We have ranked the toughest non-conference schedule and B1G schedules and Michigan State was given the 8h ranked non-conference schedule and the 10th hardest B1G schedule. I will be breaking down their schedule into three categories: Winnable games, Swing games and not a chance in hell games.

Winnable Games: W Michigan, South Florida, Youngstown St, @Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, @Illinois, Minnesota.

Our rankings seem to tell the story, as Michigan State will be facing one of their easiest schedules in years.  The Spartans miss out on Wisconsin, Ohio State and Penn state, something MSU fans certainly are not accustomed to. The home games on this list should be no doubters, but college football is not played on paper and the Spartans lost a five home games a year ago. Traveling to Iowa always seems to be tough for MSU, but the Spartans should be the better team in 2013.

Swing Games: @Notre Dame, Michigan, @Northwestern

I was going to put the game at Notre Dame under the “not a chance in hell” category, but the loss of Everett Golson is tremendous and the defense may not be the same in 2013. The Spartans will host the Wolverines in 2013 and you can never predict a rivalry game, especially not before the season starts. The last few years have shown that the Spartans and Wolverines both have the ability to beat each other and a win this season would be crucial for MSU’s Legend Division title hopes. Northwestern beat the MSU in East Lansing last year, but the Spartans hope to return the favor against an extremely talented Wildcat team.

Not a Chance in Hell Games: @Nebraska

The Spartans have not beaten Nebraska since they joined the conference in 2011, though they blew a 4th quarter lead last year in East Lansing. This game surely looks to be the toughest one on the Spartans 2013 schedule and I am not sure they’ll be able to leave Nebraska victorious. Fortunately for MSU, this game is late in the season, which should give the Spartan passing offense time to find its rhythm.  The schedule plays out perfectly for the Spartans to win the Legends division and have a chance at playing in their first Rose Bowl in 25 years. If I had to make a guess right now I would say that 10 or 11 wins is not out of the question and should be a reality with this schedule.
