Heading into the NHL trade deadline, San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson didn’t hold any punches in transforming his team into a speedier, grittier competitor down the stretch and into their first round playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks. The trading flurry began on March 25 with a move that shipped veteran defenseman Douglas Murry to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a pair of second-round draft picks (one in 2013 and one in 2014). The move was aimed at rebuilding the team for the future, giving the Sharks more youth and players that will remain under their control for several seasons. Murray was set to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
