Update (9:57): Cabrera left the game with a sore left hip flexor muscle. He will be reevaluated Tuesday and is considered day-to-day.
Miguel Cabrera, the Detroit Tigers’ defending AL MVP, left Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox with an apparent injury.
Cabrera went second to third on a bases loaded ground ball up the middle by Victor Martinez to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Upon touching the plate Cabrera headed straight for the dugout and appeared to speak with Tigers trainer Kevin Rand. He stayed in the game and came out to play third in the bottom of the inning.
Adam Dunn came up to the plate to lead off the bottom and shot a ball down the left field line. Cabrera barely made a move to his right, coming up lame and allowing the White Sox to reach base for the first time in the game. Miggy immediately left the game and there is no update on his condition.
Cabrera was bothered by back and left-hip injuries prior to the All-Star Break, but did play for the American League in the game.

On his path to a second straight AL Triple Crown, perhaps only an injury can keep him from reaching it. Well, Miguel Cabrera was removed from Monday night's game with a leg injury.
UPDATE: Cabrera has reportedly suffered a hip injury.
The Detroit Tigers lost Miguel Cabrera early during their matchup with the Chicago White Sox last night, and they now hope he isn't lost for much longer. Cabrera appeared to hurt his hip or leg in the fifth inning, but he remained in the game. After trying to make a play in the bottom of the inning, Cabrera walked off the field and did not return.

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera is currently out with a hip-flexor and he needed a way to entertain himself in the dugout. Rather than watch the game or just hang out, he decided to try and force-feed Brayan Pena. Obviously Pena is not a fan of Fig Newtons. [Deadspin]
As one of the best hitters in baseball, Miguel Cabrera is extremely entertaining to watch at the plate. As one of the funnier personalities in baseball, Miguel Cabrera is extremely entertaining to watch in the dugout.
After we got some footage of Miggy doing the robot in the dugout earlier this week, we now have the Tigers third baseman attempting to force feed a cookie to a teammate...
CHICAGO (AP) -- Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera is not in the lineup for the second straight night against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
Cabrera, the reigning AL MVP who was baseball's first Triple Crown winner in 45 years, left Monday's game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a left hip flexor injury.
Detroit manager Jim Leyland gave no update on...
The Detroit Tigers were without third baseman Miguel Cabrera last night, and manager Jim Leyland told reporters -- including Joey Nowak of MLB.com -- that he doubts "very much" that the slugger will play today. In fact, there is a chance that Cabrera misses the remainder of the Tigers' series against the White Sox.
Leyland said that he's not sure if Cabrera...
Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is out of Detroit's lineup for a fourth straight game because of an injured left hip.
Trainer Kevin Rand says the reigning Triple Crown winner is improving but needs a little more time to recover. The third baseman is hitting a major league-best .358 with 31 home runs and 96 RBIs.
Outfielder Torii Hunter also was scratched from Detroit's lineup...
The Detroit Tigers could be without Miguel Cabrera for the next handful of games but all signs point to star avoiding the disabled list.
Cabrera, 30, is having another fine season with 30 home runs and 96 RBI through 96 games.
In the top of the fifth inning of Monday’s game Cabrera injured his hip while running the bases. The Tigers could keep him out of action for a few days.
Traditionally, sunflower seeds and bubble gum are the foodstuffs of choice in major league dugouts. But sometimes, other munchies will be made available. Apparently, a mom of one of the players on the Detroit Tigers roster packed a special snack and sent it along with their special little baseball-playing boy before he headed to the [...]The post Miguel Cabrera attempts to force...
They missed him, but they didn’t
Miguel Cabrera doesn’t have to sit out many games, The Tigers, of course, are thankful for that.
But it’s not as if they go belly-up whenever he is just an observer, which was the case with his sore left hip flexor muscle on Tuesday night.
Proving that any game without Cabrera can be won if your starting pitcher is sharp and the other team...
The Tigers won a game, but lost a gamer Monday night.
Unless he has a bionic hip.
With Max Scherzer bouncing back from his first defeat to improve to 14-1 on the season, they beat the Chicago White Sox, 7-3, at U.S. Cellular Field.
A red-hot Victor Martinez had four hits and drove in three runs in the victory. He’s now hitting .425 for July.
During the game, though, Tigers’...
The Detroit Tigers are all about making sure their teammates are well fed. Anibal Sanchez has been seen feeding Max Scherzer seeds, and last night Miguel Cabrera was caught trying to force feed Brayan Pena a Fig Newton. But Pena's nipples were not very excited for Cabrera's cookie. Bad catcher! Cabrera would wind up eating it.
