The Miami Marlins are simply just not a well run organization. The latest evidence of this comes from the team's refusal to grant Miguel Olivo's request for a release, in addition to blocking his ability to sign with another organization, as well. The 34-year-old catcher has played sparingly over the past several weeks as Jeff Mathis and Rob Brantly have handled most of the catching duties. This essentially relegates Olivo to third-string catcher status which is odd because very few teams actually carry more than two catchers on the roster in the first place. The veteran has reportedly asked to be released on three different occasions and has been shut down each time."I told them I wanted to be released and they wouldn't give it to me," said Olivo. "I don't understand why they don't release me. I told them I wanted to be released because I have 30 days of not playing. I need to play."Finally, Olivo had enough and literally walked out on the team prior to this weekend. The Marlins still refused to release him and instead placed him on the restricted list which blocks his ability to sign with a different club. Furthermore, Olivo isn't getting paid is normal salary, either."I don't understand," Olivo said. "If I'm not doing nothing, I don't understand why they keep me doing nothing. Let me go. Right now they're going to make me look bad, and I'm not. I hope people understand. I just want to play baseball. They have three catchers."Olivo has a valid point. Although nobody would condone quitting in the middle of the season, it does seem extremely odd that the Marlins refuse to grant his wish. It's a lose-lose situation for all.Via Eye on Baseball
