Minnesota Wild center Mikael Granlund picked up his second goal of the year last night in 3-2 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals. Granlund has two goals in his three games… Granlund is playing well. He has 12 points in 17 games this season for the Wild, but nine points over his last nine contests. The Fin’ is starting to come into his own after only eight points in 27 games last year as a rookie. You can look to Jason Pominville for his success. Granlund is centering a line with the red hot Pominville, who has 10 goals this season. The line of Granlund, Pominville and Nino Niederreiter have 15 of the Wild’s 45 goals to start the year and are a combined plus 15. Mikael Granlund and Jason Pominville have combined for 16 points over their last six games together. Granlund has seven of those points. (Getty Images) Granlund was probably drafted near the later rounds of your fantasy hockey draft last year and chances are many didn’t bother with him this year as he is owned in only 14 percent of Yahoo! leagues. It’s a number that has doubled over the past week with the success from the 21-year old. Mikael Granlund won’t get you many goals, but as long as he keeps setting up Pominville he should be more than worthy of a waver wire add. Since being put on a line together, both have found instant chemistry and a pass first Granlund is exactly what the former Sabre likes. Granlund has averaged about a block and a hit per game so don’t count on too much from him in those categories, but expect the points and the powerplay production to keep coming. The ninth overall pick in the 2010 NHL draft is definitely worth a fantasy hockey add especially in keeper leagues.   The post Mikael Granlund: Who we thought he would be appeared first on Fantasy Sports Locker Room.

Minnesota Wild getting good 'D' from third line

One reason Wild coach Mike Yeo scrapped his three-scoring-lines system after just two periods last week was the need for a checking line, he said. On a team rooted in defense, he believed it was important to return to a third line that concentrated on shutting down opponents' top lines. That, after all, was the reason Matt Cooke was brought in last spring and Devin Setoguchi...

Wild look to contain Capitals' surging offense

The Capitals offense has been clicking with 15 goals in the last three games -- numbers that haven't seemed out of the ordinary for Washington in recent years. While the Minnesota Wild haven't been known for piling up goals, they're doing their best at the moment to match Alex Ovechkin and Co. with 13 in their last three. It's been the best three-game stretch of...

Wild lose Keith Ballard to injury… again

It is like the old Yogi Berra saying, “déjà vu all over again” for Keith Ballard who can’t catch a break so far this season when it comes to injuries and staying on the ice. The Minnesota Wild defenseman, who just recently returned after suffering a concussion, is now out with what is being called an upper-body injury, this per Michael Russo. This injury description has...

Yes, Matt Cooke Is With the Wild Now

The former Cap that Caps fans loved to hate returned with a non-rival this time, the Wild.

Caps beat Wild in shootout, extend streak

Take the midway point of Thursday night’s game at Verizon Center. The crowd was thin and subdued, no doubt distracted by a certain football team’s appearance in Minnesota. The visiting — not to mention frustrating — Minnesota Wild led by a goal and had outshot the Washington Capitals by a three-to-one margin. From that point, the Capitals’ longest winning streak of the...

Wild-Hurricanes Preview

While Minnesota has shined at home, coach Mike Yeo's team hasn't been nearly as successful on the road - and the Wild have never won in Raleigh. Minnesota goes for its first road win in six tries against the Carolina Hurricanes, who aim for a third consecutive victory Saturday night. The Wild have jumped out to a 7-1-2 start on their own ice but have averaged 2.0 goals...
