PLAYERS: Mike Modano
TEAMS: Dallas Stars
Dallas Stars legend and one-season Red Wing Mike Modano was born and raised in Metropolitan Detroit, but he chose to play Major Junior hockey when he was 16, and his performance with the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders earned him that 1st overall seleciton back in 1989. The Prince Albert Herald's Andrew Schopp reports that Modano returned to Saskatchewan to have his number retired by the Raiders on Friday: It's been 24 years since Mike Modano left the Prince Albert Raiders and the WHL behind to join the Minnesota North Stars in the NHL, but he still knows his way around town. "It's been a long time," said Modano of his last time in Prince Albert. "A few things have changed here and there, but I still figured out my way around with the rental car." WATCH: Stars goalie sprawls for amazing save

Anyone who watches the Dallas Stars knows just how much goaltender Kari Lehtonen does for the team. He covers up for a lot of poor defensive play, and keeps his team in the game more often than not. And sometimes, Lehtonen keeps the Stars in the game with something absolutely ridiculous. There was the behind-the-back save vs. Columbus. The sprawling kick-save vs. Phoenix. And tonight...

A Motivated Tyler Seguin Visits Boston Tomorrow

from Michael Grange of Sportsnet, Tyler Seguin will always consider Boston as something more than just another NHL city, but the question is:  How will his first NHL city will come to think of him? As the prodigal party boy the Bruins were better off cutting ties with while the cutting was good? Or as the latest elite NHL talent the Bruins cut adrift only to watch star...

Tyler Seguin needs to improve in the faceoff circle if he wants to be No. 1 center

The Dallas Stars reunited Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin for Sunday’s contest against the Ottawa Senators, but not in an attempt to jump start the offense or shake up the lines. Benn was tacked onto Seguin’s wing because the typical center (Seguin) has been absolutely awful in the faceoff circle so far this season. Dallas went out and traded for Seguin to give him the chance to...

Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen robs John Mitchell with phenomenal save

Dallas Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen has been known to make some great saves and his save on Friday night against Colorado Avalanche forward John Mitchell might have been his best ever.  Lehtonen scrambled around during the third period and managed to make this fantastic save to keep the Stars in the game.  The Stars would tie the game but went on to lose 3-2 in overtime. This save...

Lindy Ruff Calls Out Tyler Seguin for Faceoff Struggles, Says Center’s ‘Compete’ Has to Be Stronger

The Dallas Stars acquired Tyler Seguin in July with the thought of putting him at center. They acquired him with hopes that he would develop into a first-line center that they could build around. They acquired him hoping he’d be what everyone thought he’d be when the Bruins made him the second-overall pick in 2010. Seguin has been fantastic for the Stars since they got him in...

Nichushkin (finally) breaks through in Stars' shootout victory over Senators

If you want to find encouragement in the Stars right now, there’s no better place to look than Valeri Nichushkin. The 18-year-old winger was the 10th-overall pick in the draft and decided to jump right into the NHL, becoming the youngest player on the Stars since they moved to Dallas in 1993. However, that leap looked pretty high during his first 10 games, as he struggled to score...

Varlamov in goal for Avs vs. Stars

Semyon Varlamov is the starting goalie for the Colorado Avalanche against the Dallas Stars two days after he spent the night in jail while prosecutors considered whether he should be charged with assaulting his girlfriend. The 25-year-old Varlamov was arrested on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault. He turned himself in on Wednesday, and on Thursday, Varlamov...

Kari Lehtonen Makes Unbelievable Pad Save, Robs John Mitchell of Sure-Thing Goal (Video)

Kari Lehtonen made the impossible possible on Friday night. The Stars goaltender made one of the most impressive and miraculous saves of the year, stopping an Avalanche goal that he had no business stopping during the third period. With Dallas down 2-1, a shot toward the  netminder resulted in a scramble for the puck that Lehtonen couldn’t snag. Colorado’s John Mitchell ended...

Stars beat Senators in shootout

Jordie Benn scored the game winner in the shootout and the Dallas Stars defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-3 Sunday. The game had a number of twists and turns, but perhaps the most disconcerting for the Senators was the injury to goalie Craig Anderson. With 1:32 gone in overtime, Anderson went down hard after being hit by Valeri Nichushkin. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher after...

DALLAS (AP) -- Paul Stastny's second goal of the game 3:36 into overtime gave the Colorado Avalanche and troubled goalie Semyon Varlamov a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Friday night. Stastny fired a shot from the left circle past goalie Kari Lehtonen to beat the Stars, who had rallied from a 2-0 deficit. The goal was his fourth of the season. Dallas had scored twice...
