Found September 24, 2013 on The Nosebleeds:
If you’re a first line winger for your NHL squad, maybe engaging in a slugfest of heavy fisticuffs in the preseason isn’t the best idea. Apparently nobody told that to Milan Lucic before the Bruins exhibition matchup against the Capitals on Monday, as Lucic and Joel Rechlicz went back and forth with big blows for nearly a minute during the first period at the TD Garden. Rechlicz has been an AHL enforcer for much of his five-year pro career (only 26 NHL games played) and preseason fights are usually reserved for guys like him, tough guys who need to prove they can provide a spark. Meanwhile, there’s no real reason why an integral two-way forward like Lucic should be laying his health on the line in a meaningless game, but I’m sure it’s tough to convince any NHL tough guy with a reputation and ego that he should back down when challenged. I’m sure the Bruins aren’t too thrilled to be seeing this image before the season even starts. Milan Lucic-Joel Rechlicz Fight a ‘Fight for Men,’ Gives Bruins Winger Chance to Warm Up Fists

BOSTON — The Bruins probably don’t necessarily like Milan Lucic fighting too much. He’s a top-six forward who has shown an ability to score goals, and he also brings a physical presence that is undeniable. However, that doesn’t do him or the team much good if he’s watching games from the press box with a broken hand. But fighting is a part of Lucic’s game, and it makes...

The great wall of Chara: A look at the Bruins big man

Zdeno Chara (Photo credit: Brian Babineau/NHLI via Getty Images)   Zdeno Chara is one of the most recognizable players in the NHL and coming in at 6-foot-9, 256 pounds, there is no doubt why this is the case. In addition to being the largest man ever to play in the NHL, Chara is also recognized as having the fastest slap shot among NHL players.  His record 108.8 mph slap shot...

Patrice Bergeron Has The Best Team And Zone Adjusted Corsi

A few days ago I posted the top 20 players by team and zone adjusted Corsi ratings.  Leading the list was Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.  This is a strong argument that Bergeron is the best puck possession player in the NHL in 2013.  Bergeron is a top defensive forward with solid offensive skills.  He plays a tough role for the Boston Bruins where he plays against tough...

Is Perreault odd-man out for Caps?

Mathieu Perreault has been down this road before having to prove himself to Bruce Boudreau and Dale Hunter. Now in his second year under Adam Oates he’s back in those same murky waters not exactly sure how he fits into the Capitals’ plans this season. “So far I’m just kind of looking at it from the outside and trying to figure it out” Perreault said Monday before catching...

Kelly's OT goal lifts Bruins over Capitals 3-2

Center Chris Kelly scored 3:39 into overtime and defenseman Zdeno Chara scored two goals to lead the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals in a preseason game Monday night. Kelly scored on a rebound of a shot from the left point by defenseman Matt Bartkowski. The Bruins outshot the Capitals 38-14. Goaltender Tuukka Rask made 12 saves, while Braden Holtby stopped...

Bruins power play looks revitalized

The era of the Bruins power play as league-wide punch line might finally be coming to an end. It was a constipated unsightly run last season for the Bruins. They ranked 26th in the NHL with a 14.8 percent success rate during the regular season and they have ranked in the NHL’s bottom third of power play success percentage in three of the last four seasons. During the playoffs...

Fehr has 2 goals and Caps top Predators 4-1

Eric Fehr had two goals and Mikhail Grabovski had three assists and the Washington Capitals earned a 4-1 preseason victory over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom each had a goal and an assist. Michal Neuvirth made 33 saves. Gabriel Bourque scored for Nashville. Grabovski, who was late to camp because of visa issues, assisted on both goals...

Ovechkin, Capitals aim for better playoff outcome

The patches of white in Alex Ovechkin's black hair are growing more pronounced. He turned 28 this month, he is the captain of the Washington Capitals, and while the Russian wing is coming off a third NHL MVP trophy, what he does not have at this point is much in the way of playoff success. ''Of course it's hard (to) realize you're getting older. And, of course...

Ovechkin not sure if he's going to Greece to carry Olympic torch

As of Tuesday it was still undetermined whether Alex Ovechkin would go to Greece for the Olympic torch passing ceremony. Caps general manager George McPhee said he didn’t know if arrangements had been made to get Ovechkin to Greece on Friday night and back in Washington Sunday night in time to practice Monday and fly to Chicago for the season opener. Ovechkin has said he wants...

Bruins-Capitals Live: Tuukka Rask Making Second Appearance As B’s Welcome Caps to Boston

12 p.m: The Bruins will play their second preseason home game on Monday night, and they’re sure hoping it goes a lot better than the preseason home opener. The B’s were rolled 8-2 by Detroit at TD Garden on Thursday night, and they’ll get a chance to turn their home mojo around Monday night when they welcome the Washington Capitals to Boston. The ugly loss to the Red Wings...

4 reasons why the Bruins will make it to the Stanley Cup final (and win)

Photo via ESPN.comWhile it's true that the 2013-2014 NHL season is still several days away, it's never too early to start thinking about which teams will walk away the Stanley Cup champions. About which team will put their blood, sweat and tears into 82 regular season games, and...

Enough Fighting

from Dave Lozo of The Score, I’m like everyone else with human DNA – I absolutely love watching two other humans beat the life out of each other. It’s in all of us to an extent. Those UFC knockout highlight shows are incredible. A roundhouse kick to the jaw of a guy who is out cold on his feet? Brilliant. Milan Lucic and Joel Rechlicz punching each other for a full 60...

Washington Capitals 4 – Nashville Predators 1 | FINAL BOX SCORE

Tonight’s Three Stars: Eric Fehr Mikhail Grabovski Michal Neuvirth The post Washington Capitals 4 – Nashville Predators 1 | FINAL BOX SCORE appeared first on The Predatorial.

Hey, just one week left

This offseason has seemed to drag on forever, which is incredible, because the last one took so damn long. This year, there is actually a full preseason, with exhibition games and a training camp. Some of those games were on TV. Players are actually fighting for roster spots, rather than just getting thrown out on the ice after a year away. This should be a regular occurrance, but...
