The Tribe Daily:
WHAT'S THE NEWS
Chris Jones is still young, so the fact that he didn't make the Lake County rotation out of spring training shouldn't be a huge deal. But Jones is making strides since getting called up on June 1st.
COLUMBUS
Jeremy Sowers took his act to the minor leagues, where he's usually good by evidence of his current 2.89 ERA.
However, when I say he took his act to the minors, he really did take his act to the minors in the Clippers loss to Syracuse. That current ERA is after he gave up five runs as well.
Sowers gave up one run in the first inning and then went the next five without a run. He reached the seventh inning and kaboom, four runs.
Same old same old...and this guy is starting for us on Friday?
Matt LaPorta had two hits and one of two runs knocked in for the Clippers in the ninth inning. Too little too late though.
Jordan Brown did not play, if that's a sign or not, who knows, but he was out of the lineup.
AKRON
The Aeros backed Michael Tejera with some runs in their win over Bowie yesterday.
Tejera gave up three runs in six innings for his first Aeros win. Mr. Mascot Putnam pitched two scoreless inning with just two hits.
Mr. Extra Base Hit Matt McBride had two hits, a double and a big three-run shot in the sixth inning.
Armando Camacaro had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored, while Jose Constanza got it done again with two hits himself. He tripled and knocked in a run.
Kyle Haines also had three hits and he knocked in a run. Little more playing time for the utility player.
KINSTON
A five run eighth inning wasn't enough in the Kinston comeback against Potomac on Sunday.
Lucas Montero and Bo Pickens both had two hits, with Pickens knocking in a run. Ron Rivas doubled and knocked in three runs. Ole Sheldon Plankton was 1-1 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored.
Eric Berger put the Kinston Indians put them in the hole, but it probably wasn't all his fault. Berger went 4.2 innings, gave up two earned (five total) off four hits and four walks. Not all his fault, but you can't be successful and walk four hitters. He did strike out six.
Dave Roberts gave up four runs in just one and one third of an inning.
LAKE COUNTY
The Captains were basically done in by a pair of three-run homers that Trey Haley surrendered.
Haley went just the three innings, giving up six runs, five total walks, no wonder he was hurt by the long ball.
Nate Recknagel did go 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
MAHONING VALLEY
Walk it off Scrappers! Walk...it...off!!
You got a good feeling about the Valley this year, they've got a little bit of magic, and this proves it.
Greg Folgia hit a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Scrappers a 8-6 victory. BIG TIME! Folgia was 2-4 with a double as well and five total RBI.
Rafael Vera, Ben Carlson and Jason Smit all knocked in runs as well, but this game was about the walks.
13 total walks by the Scrappers...
Jordan Henry had three, Jason Smit had two, a few people had one, but Ben Carlson ruled them all with FOUR, yes FOUR walks.
Scrapper pitchers did give up six total runs, but not a single one of them was earned. Marty Popham struck out six in five innings with no walks and the four unearned.
Jose Urena went two scoreless to pick up his second win.
ARIZONA LEAGUE
The Cubs took down the AZL Indians 6-2, ruining a good start for pitchers Gregorio Rosario and Kirk Wetmore. Carlos Moncried blew the game with four runs and every pitcher followed with a run themselves.
Moises Montero knocked in a run, Kevin Rucker had two hits and the rehabbing Jeremie Tice had two knocks himself.
