Mississippi State quarterback Tyler Russell has a concussion and is doubtful for Saturday's game against Alcorn State.
Coach Dan Mullen announced Russell's status on Monday. The quarterback left last Saturday's 21-3 loss to No. 13 Oklahoma State in the third quarter after taking a hit to the head.
Sophomore Dak Prescott will likely get his first career start against the Braves.
Mullen also says starting safety Jay Hughes will miss the rest of the season after injuring his right Achilles against Oklahoma State.
Sophomore Kendrick Market and junior Dee Arrington are the likely candidates to receive increased playing time with Hughes out of the lineup.
The coach says other players who could miss time with nagging injuries include linebacker Ferlando Bohanna, offensive lineman Justin Malone and cornerback Jamerson Love.

HOUSTON -- Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen addressed the media after the Bulldogs 21-3 loss to Oklahoma State in the Texas Kickoff Classsic.
A total of 55 Bulldogs got on the field during Mississippi State’s opening game. There were 16 more who made the travel roster but did not participate.
It was interesting that both schools were permitted to leave complimentary admissions for prospects Saturday, but were not allowed to speak with or greet those prospects and their family members. They also do not come down on the field as the prospects normally do during pregame warm-ups at a true home game. Here is who we detected at OSU's 21-3 win over Mississippi State at Reliant Stadium.
