The Cleveland Indians have activated closer Chris Perez from the 15-day disabled list. Perez last pitched on May 26 in Boston and has been on the DL since May 27 with a strained right shoulder. He recently made three rehab appearances, June 16-25, at AA Akron, A Lake County and Short-Season A Mahoning Valley. So far through 2013, he is 2-1 with six saves in eight attempts with a 4.32 ERA. In 17 outings (16 2/3 innings) Perez has allowed 15 hits, nine runs (eight earned), and 10 walks while striking out 18 (.231 average). During his first 14 games of the season, Perez posted an ERA of 0.64, allowing just two runs (one earned). To make room for Perez, the team optioned left-hander TJ HOuse to Columbus. In addition to this move, the Indians traded veteran infielder John McDonald to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for either a Player to be Named Later or cash considerations. He was designated for assignment on Wednesday following the activation of shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list (leg).
