Former Real Madrid defender Aitor Karanka is the latest manager to hold talks over the vacant Crystal Palace job. The Spaniard - who worked as Jose Mourinho’s No 2 during the Chelsea boss’ three year spell at the Bernabeu - met with Palace co-chairman Steve Parish last week to discuss the prospect of replacing Ian Holloway, who left the club last month. Karanka, who has never managed a club side, is out of work after Carlo Ancelotti decided against including him in his backroom staff upon replacing Mourinho in the summer. ‘I know him very, very well. I think the club that gets him, whether in England or another country, will be a lucky club,’ Mourinho said on Friday. Karanka joins Martin O’Neill and Tony Pulis in having met with Palace for talks. However, the 40-year-old’s lack of experience could work against him when Palace eventually choose their next manager. Palace could yet decide to appoint a technical director in addition to a new manager, with Neil Warnock a strong candidate to fill that role.
