Being the top running back in the NFL isn’t enough forAdrian Peterson. The Minnesota Vikings’ all-time leading rusher says he aspires to one day compete in the Olympics as a sprinter.

During an interview with Graham Bensinger on “In Depth,” Peterson revealed his goal to compete in the 2016 Olympics. In fact, All Day says he wanted to run in the 2012 Olympics, but his knee injury derailed those plans.

“Before I tore my ACL, I was going to go to a couple of track meets and run unattached and just see where I was at, get some meets under my belt or whatnot, but unfortunately, I hurt my knee. Now that I’m back and refreshed, I think I’m going to give it a shot still,” Peterson told Bensinger.

“I told myself, hey, I want to try out for the Olympics for the 200 and the 400. That’s something that – that’s a goal of mine that I want to accomplish.”

Peterson says he ran track in high school and had success despite not having very good instruction from coaches. He wonders how he would stack up in the right environment. He’s not even intimidated by the thought of competing against Usain Bolt, who is the world record holder in the 100 and 200-meters.

“I feel like I can stand up to any challenge,” Peterson said. “I know a lot of people laugh and be like ‘come on, let’s be real with yourself.’ It’s Usain Bolt, but I feel like you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.”

After watching him burst through holes and outrun opposing players throughout his career, I have to say that I would be intrigued to see how Peterson would do as a sprinter. His dreams are not too far-fetched; Patriots running back Jeff Demps was a silver medalist on the US’ 4 x 100 meter relay team at the London Games. Peterson might not be the fastest player in the league, but one thing we have learned — especially after this season — is that we should never underestimate him.

1 Comment:
  • Peterson is the current holder of the "Best Running Back" in the NFL. Usain Bolt is the world's fastest man. There is no substitue for speed. If Usain Bolt would try to be a football player, with only speed as his skill, he would fail. Peterson living in a fantasy, he can't out run the defense, he is fast, but defensive backs catch him from behind. So he is really out classed trying to claim to be the World's Fastest Human" He is not even a contender. Stick with what you do well and improve on it.

However, Peterson wouldn’t be human if it didn’t sting...

Players were singing and clapping about being the league's most surprising...

While being interviewed post-game by Fox's Pam Oliver — after...

Ten Observations from Week 17 in the NFL

1. Adrian Peterson is this year’s MVP. It wouldn’t be a travesty if Peyton Manning were to claim this year’s MVP award. It wouldn’t be a crime, an injustice, or a mockery for the NFL. Having said that, Adrian Peterson is so clearly this year’s most valuable player that it’s almost not even worth discussing. The Vikings went 3-13 last year and owned the third overall pick...

One and done; Green Bay Packers

Recent playoff games in Lambeau have not been kind to Packers fans…next weekend will be no different.   My predictions are ALWAYS wrong, so…Packer fans…enjoy the very real possibility that what I am about to write will be dead wrong…because it usually is. That being said, the POSSIBILITY that I may be wrong is really the only hope the Packers have of not being embarrassed...

Passing game a welcome addition for Vikings

Sunday's 37-34 win against the Green Bay Packers perhaps wasn't the most dominating win of the season for the Minnesota Vikings, but it certainly was the biggest. Beating NFC North champion Green Bay was Minnesota's most important victory since the 2009 season. A 37-34 win, thanks to a time-expiring 29-yard field goal by rookie kicker Blair Walsh doesn't qualify...
