A 24-year-old Hooters employee named Nicole Zivich (pictured, right) claims she was unfairly terminated from her gig as Estero High School’s varsity cheerleading coach, according to WTSP News in Tampa, Fla. The school gave her no reason when she was dismissed November 21st.

Joe Donzelli, a spokesman for the Lee County School District, said her firing did not have to do with her outside employment. He declined to comment further because, he said, it’s a personnel issue.

Zivich’s personnel file at the school shows no wrongdoing or malfeasance.

From WTSP.com

Zivich said she believes her firing was prompted by repeated complaints made to the school district by a parent of one of the cheerleaders.

“I think it’s personal. I think she doesn’t like me,” said Zivich, who would not reveal the parent’s name. “She has called me (a) noneducated Hooters girl with no common sense of safety.”

Zivich said the parent did not approve of how the cheerleaders did stunts without mats and of a car wash fundraiser where some of the girls wore bikini tops.

Zivich said the cheerleaders were not required to wear bikini tops; or t-shirts for that matter. It was up to them. The firing especially stings for Nicole, because the school is her alma mater where she cheered all four years and her acquired the position through legacy/nepotism.

Zivich started out as JV Cheerleader coach, but inherited the varsity position after her Mom retired. At the Nov. 22 school board meeting, more than a dozen cheerleaders spoke out in support of Zivich and pleaded for her reinstatement. Zivich is considering taking legal action.

  • There is NO WAY on God's Green Earth that Nicole's work history should have anything to do with her position as Cheerleading Coach. It's comments like this that really get me steamed up from people who have never even stepped foot into a "Hooters" restaurant. We had one in Sugarland Texas that even had a playroom for the kids! This is a "Family" oriented restaurant! I worked for a guy in Florida that refused to approve my company expense account if I went to Hooters. He was eventually fired, but again, he had no idea what they were all about, yet had his mind made up it was some kind of strip club. God Bless all of the cheerleaders for standing up for Nicole. Nicole, go get a lawyer and take it to court! I really want to see how this is going to turn out!
  • I disagree. Hooters is known for skimpy clothes and women with a certain appeal. Would you take your family to the Playboy Mansion to eat at their Playboy resturaunt? I dont think so. I think Hooters is not family oriented. Families don't need to see t!ts hanging out of a shirt. Most Hooters girls want to be famous so they stir up crap like this to get there name out. Family oriented businesses dont require their employees to be thin and wear skimpy clothes. A family oriented business wouldn't require their employees to have sex appeal. In other words Hooters would hire fat girls, right? Hooters is more than a place to eat. They have contests, pagents, calenders, etc...Most nudity..
  • When's the last time you went to a Hooter's? While I don't go there often, over the years I've been in them in many towns, from Vancouver to Tampa. Most of the time I've been there, I've found many of the customers to include women, small children and seniors. While the Hooter's uniform does consist of short-shorts and tank tops, many of the waitresses had very little of what one could consider "sex appeal". In addition, there were quite a few very overweight ladies (who cares, they looked fine to me)employed at a number of establishments. In a nutshell, this is just a restaurant chain where the waitresses wear shorts. So what?? While it might have started out as something else, in the early days of the franchises, it has thankfully, evolved to attract a broader customer base.
  • binge442 Really! Been to the beach lately? Do you have kids, do they wear berkas? To agree with Oldshoe most of the Hooters I've been to have some really average looking girls, there are exceptions but few. Look at her age she is young and attractive so she is working a job to make some extra money but you would call that exploitation and it is to some extent, but I don't think it mentioned anywhere in the artical that she was proposistioning the customers, who knows maybe she's not a trust fund baby and she needs the second job to make ends meet. Maybe Hooters had a better chance of making better tips then the A&W offered...
  • When my daughter turned 18 she thought of working at hooters...and you know what...I DIDN"T CARE!!!...yes.they wear shorts and a tank top. But she wears a 2 piece at the pool.
I have been a cheer coach for over 18 yrs. You have to work another job to make ends meat. I figured up that cheer coaches make about 3 cents an hour. At least that is what I make and I put in a lot of hours. I love my job. However, since we are military we may soon be stationed in Florida MacDill AFB. I would really love to coach out there.
It does sounds like parents are alike all over the place. All but Germany. I coached there for 8 years and parents there are not half as bad as parents here.
They need to hire her back.
