The Dallas Mavericks were unsuccessful in their effort to sign free agent Dwight Howard, but they put together a pretty cool video as part of their pitch to the center.

Mavs owner Mark Cuban wrote a lengthy blog post about the status of his team and reflected on how the past few years have gone for the franchise. In the blog post, Cuban discussed the team’s free agent meeting with Howard. Cuban says “[the Mavericks] believed we could make it work” with fitting Howard into the team’s culture, and he gave credit to Howard for being very smart and an excellent listener.

Cuban also shared the video the team played for Howard. The video is like an animated comic book story with Howard as a superhero. One cool part of the video shows the Mavericks sending out the bat signal to Howard, with the Mavs logo as the signal:

The video also referenced Dwight’s desire to win and how he likes to have fun while doing it. The video’s final message was pretty cool too: “Being a Maverick ends with global domination!”

The Mavs knew Howard has an affinity for superheroes; Dwight earned the nickname Superman after participating in the dunk contest with a Superman cape and other Clark Kent props. After Shaq complained that Howard was stealing his nickname, the young center said he wanted to go by another superhero nickname — Ironman.

Since losing out on Howard, Cuban has said he believes the team is better off without the center. We disagree.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban may have been unsuccessful in his attempts to woo Dwight Howard to Dallas this offseason, but at least he had the most creative pitch. Mark Cuban reveals his Dwight Howard recruitment video

The Dallas Mavericks failed in their bid to get a big-name free agent these past two summers. Mark Cuban had big plans and broke up his championship team from 2011 in order to get there. He cleared cap room and hoped to bring in both Deron Williams (a Dallas high school star) and Dwight Howard to Dallas. That did not work. Neither made their way to "Big D" and Cuban...

Is Miguel Cabrera this generation’s Hank Aaron?

On June 20, 2003, Miguel Cabrera struck out in his first big league at bat.  He’d get the last laugh however. In the bottom of the eleventh inning the 20-year-old rookie hit a two-run home run to help his then-Florida Marlins to a 3-1 victory over the then-Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Now, I bring that up only to awkwardly segue into this. Friday, the reigning American League MVP turned...
