Garrett McNamara landed himself in the Guinness World Records when it was confirmed that he rode a 78-foot wave in Nazare, Portugal in 2011. That wave was insanely huge and it looks like Garrett may have outdone himself on Monday Jan 28th 2013 back at the same surf spot. It isn’t confirmed yet, but it looks like Garrett may have ridden the largest wave ever by a human and initial speculation has the wave clocking in at a mere 100-feet. According to Surfer Today: The image captured by Tó Mané, one of the best surf photographers in Europe, is simply breathtaking. Garrett McNamara is seen riding what seems to be a 100-foot wave. Although is far from clear, as the shot is taken from an upper angle, the ride is unbelievable. Tó Mané freezes the moment when McNamara descends the face of the wave. Garrett McNamara. Nazaré. Today. Perfect twitter.com/ciscosalvador/… — Francisco Salvador (@ciscosalvador) January 28, 2013 The only thing left is for officials to confirm the height of the wave, and then we will be able to see if Garrett was able to better his 78-foot monster from last year. Here is Garrett’s 78-foot wave which he rode last year: var conf_57918 = { APIKey: '2_N1YlfjHIEAtyRAK3CAYRE5a1aBuANuMOCLc_7hsOQ13HnwCrW_u-6OuDhjC7vR06 ', lang : 'en', enabledProviders: '' }; var image57918 = {src:'http://cdn.cosbysweaters.com/wp-includes/images/blank.gif',href:'http://cosbysweaters.com/2013/01/28/did-garrett-mcnamara-ride-a-100-foot-wave-photo/',type:'image'}; var ua_57918 = new gigya.services.socialize.UserAction(); ua_57918.setUserMessage(''); ua_57918.setLinkBack('http://cosbysweaters.com/2013/01/28/did-garrett-mcnamara-ride-a-100-foot-wave-photo/'); ua_57918.setTitle('Did Garrett McNamara Ride a 100-Foot Wave? • WOW that takes a lot of guts with a side order of insanity
  • Yea, and I Skied a 100 ft Mountain!
  • Well, Christ, if it weren't edited every 1/10th of a second it may be something to behold. As it was presented here it didn't stay with one camera long enough for me to enjoy or appreciate it. No consideration for the viewer's appreciation at all.
  • Whoa! We surfers have "aloha" and compassion for all people, so a little more respect is in due order - for this "Mister McNamara" (to you). Wouldn't ya' think? Are you very land/ice locked? It's really better to be better in your heart, AYE??? Don't come to Hawai'i with that attitude. DUDE.
  • Well put alohaland!
  • Crumby video, not the surfers, the guy taking the video.
  • "...and initial speculation has the wave clocking in at a MERE 100 feet." Well I guess that's it then. Proper English grammar has officially been pronounced dead.

RUMORS & GOSSIP

Mayweather reportedly willing to give rematch to Pacquiao

It took forever for Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao to finally come to terms on their first fight, but it sounds like Round 2 might quickly come together.   Mayweather-Pacquiao wasn’t the thriller so many hoped it would be, but the overhyped bout between the two men pushing 40 made record amounts of money. So it should come as no surprise that both fighters...

Eliminate Hack-A-Player: Don't reward violating sports rules

Yes, it’s convenient that we’re writing about Hack-A-Player at this specific point in time. Yet, the argument against allowing the practice existed far before the 2015 NBA Playoffs. Even before the Hack-A-(DeAndre) Jordan employed by the San Antonio Spurs over the past two weeks; even before Monday night’s sorry spectacle of the Hack-A-Jordan dueling with the Hack-A-(Dwight...

Josh Smith: Rockets played ‘hero ball’

The Houston Rockets had their chances against the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 1 on Monday night, but they were badly outplayed in the second half. Selfishness on offense was one of Houston’s biggest issues, according to Josh Smith. Smith, who hit just 3-of-12 shots from the field and 1-of-5 from beyond the arc, said...Read More

Pacquiao to have surgery to repair 'significant' shoulder tear

Manny Pacquiao is the new Kevin Love. Pacquiao immediately went public with an alleged injury following Saturday night’s loss to Floyd Mayweather. In doing so, Pacquiao was criticized for coming up with an excuse after the loss, but it seems the injury is real. Pacquiao’s orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, confirmed that an MRI on Monday revealed a “significant tear”...
