Saturday’s qualifying session for the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan has ended, and to no surprise, Ambrose has won the pole with a speed of 203.241, a new NASCAR track record. The third fastest qualifying time in NASCAR history. Kevin Harvick will join him on the front row, while Biffle, Kahne, and Newman round out the Top 5. Ambrose has never finished better than 15th, carrying an average finish of 27th to his name.
Toyota has produced four of the last five wins here at MIS. Two of which came from the duo of Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch, while Denny Hamlin has brought home the trophy the last two years in the June race.
This weekend’s 400-mile event marks Jeff Burton’s 37th start at the two-mile facility and 634th-career Sprint Cup Series entry. Burton garnered four top-five and nine top-10 finishes at the track along with two pole awards in 1996 and 2006. He also led 75 laps at the Brooklyn, Mich.-based race track.
