Saturday’s qualifying session for the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan has ended, and to no surprise, Ambrose has won the pole with a speed of 203.241, a new NASCAR track record. The third fastest qualifying time in NASCAR history. Kevin Harvick will join him on the front row, while Biffle, Kahne, and Newman round out the Top 5. Ambrose has never finished better than 15th, carrying an average finish of 27th to his name.

Toyota has produced four of the last five wins here at MIS. Two of which came from the duo of Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch, while Denny Hamlin has brought home the trophy the last two years in the June race.

This weekend’s 400-mile event marks Jeff Burton’s 37th start at the two-mile facility and 634th-career Sprint Cup Series entry. Burton garnered four top-five and nine top-10 finishes at the track along with two pole awards in 1996 and 2006. He also led 75 laps at the Brooklyn, Mich.-based race track. Burton has not won since he dominated Bank of America 500 at Lowe’s, pretty sad right considering the equipment he has to work with over at Richard Childress Racing.

Addressing JR Nation:

Brace yourselves, NASCAR fans! The Dale Jr. lovers will be out in fullforce this weekend. Sunday will mark the 3 year anniversary of #88′s last victory in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. But sadly, Sunday will not be any different than the Dale’s last 4 years. He will not win. Something will go wrong, whether we like it or not.

Bayne speaks:

Earlier today, on an online chat with the driver of the Wood Brothers #21 Motorcraft Ford, I asked a pretty solid question.

“If you happened to have a slim lead on the last lap, who is the last guy you would want to see in your rear view mirror?”  Baby Bayne responded with “Probably Tony Stewart. Or Dale Jr. because then the fans would hate me.”

I thought it was pretty cool to chat with the 2011 Daytona 500 winner.

isportsweb.com pick:

Please, please, for the love of sweet Jesus, do not hate me NASCAR fans. I refuse to pick Dale Earnhardt Jr., I refuse. Instead, I’m going for a man who is long overdue. Harvick has not won on the Sprint Cup circuit since last season at Richmond, buuuut, he has racked up two 2nd place finishes this year. Harvick will roll his Chevy out 2nd, after running a 202.037 in qualifying.Watch out for this man, because Sunday is the day, “The Closer” cracks Victory Lane.
