What a run it’s been for Penske Racing on the NASCAR side over the past month.
In the NASCAR Nationwide Series they’ve won four of the last five races, including three in a row.
The No. 22 Penske Ford has taken the top spot in the owners standings with it being the winning car in all of the races including seven of the last 15 races with three different drivers.
In the drivers championship picture, Sam Hornish Jr. has moved into the top spot after finishing in the top three in four of the last five races as well including three runner-ups.
On the Sprint Cup side it’s getting just as good as it’s looking more and more like not only with defending Cup champion Brad Keselowski made the Chase after all, but his teammate Joey Logano can get in too.
Logano won the pole in track record fashion this past weekend in Michigan and followed that up with a victory. Now, it’s Keselowski’s turn.
Keselowski started the year off with eight straight top eight finishes then went through a dismal rough stretch. He fell outside the top 10 in the points and looked like his only way to make the Chase was going to be to win a race which his No. 2 Miller Lite Ford was far off. Then came the his recent hot streak that propelled him into eighth in the standings with two very good tracks coming up.
“Bad Brad” could really solidify his Chase chances with a victory Saturday night in the Irwin Tools Night Race at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Keselowski has finished in the top three in three of the last four races at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile. He won the night race in 2011 and has led 409 career laps at Bristol.
After a third place finish back in March this is his chance to excel at a track he’s good at and make himself a Championship contender and not have to worry much in the last two races before the Chase.
