During NASCAR’s Acceleration Weekend, DuPont hosted a press conference featuring Jeff Gordon and hosted by former driver Ricky Craven. Both drivers have been sponsored by DuPont, with Gordon celebrating 20 years with DuPont as his sponsor. NASCAR legend and team owner Richard Petty was also in attendance. Gordon and Petty hold the records for longest-running sponsorships between a single driver and company, Petty’s being with STP. With a NASCAR legend like Petty and a current star like Gordon, the stories exchanged were priceless and the insight gained was immeasurable. “Coming from open wheel racing and not growing up [following NASCAR], I got grief for that in my early years in NASCAR because I wasn’t the stereotypical driver who grew up in the south who really knew the sport—but one thing I did know was who Richard Petty was and who Dale Earnhardt was,” Gordon said on his early days in NASCAR. “Looking back on it now to know that I had the opportunity—I think I’m like one of...

Loomis no longer leading Petty team

Richard Petty Motorsports has elected not to renew Robbie Loomis' contract for 2012. Loomis, who was most recently listed at Chief Operating Officer for RPM, first joined Petty Enterprises as a crew chief in 1991 at the end of the King's driving career. Two years later, Rick Wilson jumped into the seat of the hallowed No. 43 followed by a variety of drivers -- Wally Dallenbach...

Jeff Gordon and Dupont – Together for 20 years

Jeff Gordon took to the racetrack in Atlanta for the final race of the 1992 for his first Cup series start the same day that Richard Petty hung up his helmet. 20 years later DuPont is still a sponsor for Gordon’s Cup racing efforts. As part of the Acceleration weekend activities, Gordon and Petty were together again on the stage in the Great Hall of the NASCAR Hall of Fame...

NASCAR Became a Whole New World When Gordon Dupont Entered The Race

"A Whole New World" appropriately was the No. 1 song on the pop charts the year Jeff Gordon came on the NASCAR Cup Series scene in the rainbow-colored Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet and took the motorsports world by storm. But the irony goes beyond the song title. Gordon's first Cup Series start was seven-time champion "King" Richard Petty...

On Friday evening, the NASCAR Hall of Fame will officially honored its third class of inductees into the Hall — Richie Evans, Dale Inman, Darrell Waltrip, Glen Wood and Cale Yarborough — with an official ceremony in the Crown Ballroom of the Charlotte Convention Center. Fan-Tastic: NASCAR Preview Ups Anticipation For 2012 Season

For one day at least, Sam Alverson of Jacksonville, Fla., could lay claim to being NASCAR’s No. 1 fan. It wasn’t just because of his devotion to the sport; it’s because he was first in line. After a marathon 26-hour campout session, Alverson was the first of thousands of fans through the doors Saturday for the inaugural NASCAR Preview 2012 Presented by Sprint at the NASCAR...

NASCAR: Hall of Fame Celebrates Greatness

On Friday night in Charlotte, NC, I had the opportunity to cover NASCAR’s 2012 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony as five NASCAR legends were given the sport’s greatest honor. This year’s class, the third to gain admission to NASCAR’s relatively new Hall of Fame, was the most diverse yet. It included multiple championship-winning Cup drivers (and former rivals) Cale Yarborough...
