After being shut down completely Saturday night, it took the Predators just over one minute Monday to find their offensive groove against Phoenix. The Predators pounced early, scoring three goals in the first period en route to a 4-2 win over the Coyotes in front of 15,728 fans at Bridgestone Arena. “That was the mind-set that we have to come out with,” Predators coach Barry Trotz said. “We scored three, but we could have scored five or six. We had a couple of breakaways and (Coyotes goalie Mike) Smith made good saves. I think we took one off the post, and we just came out really well and executed.” Nick Spaling got the scoring started by putting a rebound of a Matt Cullen shot past Smith at the 1:02 mark. “I think that coming out early is a key to our success, especially at home,” Spaling said. “We have to take advantage of playing here. We’ve been on the road quite a bit lately, and it is nice to be home with all that energy and excitement.” The early success seemed to open t...

Preds learn from past mistakes as they take down Coyotes

In front of 15,728 inside Bridgestone Arena, the Nashville Predators learned from the past mistakes and beat the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-2, on Monday night. The game was a carbon copy through two periods of the Halloween contest between these two clubs. Back on October 31, the Predators had a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes, Phoenix rallied in the second to pull within a goal and then went...

Coyotes waive veteran defenseman Klesla

In a surprise move, the Phoenix Coyotes placed veteran defenseman Rusty Klesla on waivers Tuesday. Klesla is in the final year of his contract and is due to make 2.975 million this season. That and his veteran presence would make him an attractive option for several clubs. It had been speculated that Klesla could be part of a potential trade to bring a top-six wing to the Coyotes...

Predators use fast start in 4-2 win over Coyotes

The Nashville Predators used a fast start to stay on a roll. Nick Spaling, Mike Fisher and Gabriel Bourque scored first-period goals to lead Nashville to a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night. Shea Weber also scored for Nashville, which has won four of five. Mikkel Boedker and Tim Kennedy scored for the Coyotes, who lost their third straight. Spaling scored the game...

The Fangover: Preds hold off Coyotes' comeback attempt

The Nashville Predators avoided a repeat of what occurred on Halloween night when they possessed a three goal lead in the first period against the Phoenix Coyotes, but later on blew it, giving the Coyotes a 5-4 shootout win in Glendale.  Nashville opened up the scoring just 1:02 in with a Nick Spaling goal, followed by goals from Mike Fisher and Gabriel Bourque to give the Predators...

Predators celebrate American players with fantastic highlight video

After a handful of American-born Nashville Predators players had a strong showing in a routine victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs last week, the Preds’ media department made this awesome video celebrating the good old U-S of A. It’s pretty amazing by team-sponsored highlight video standards and it honors all things America – the Founding Fathers, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Chuck...

Nystrom/Fisher/Wilson prove an effective combination in Hornqvist’s absence

The Predators needed a bit of line adjustments after Saturday’s shutout loss to the New York Rangers, losing Patric Hornqvist with a lower-body injury mid-game and for tonight’s contest against Phoenix as well. Shuffling Eric Nystrom into his spot with Mike Fisher and Colin Wilson seemed to be the correct combination as the trio put a goal and multiple chances on Mike Smith en...

PK Needs Improvement In Phoenix

from Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic, Even when the Coyotes were in the midst of a recent 8-1-1 stretch, concerns festered under the surface. And now that the Coyotes are winless in their past two games, those trouble spots have taken center stage. “They were covered up maybe on the outside, but inside we’ve been pounding away at it,” coach Dave Tippett...

Coyotes' Rusty Klesla cleared waivers Wednesday, assigned to minor leagues

Coyotes veteran defenseman Rusty Klesla cleared waivers Wednesday morning and will be assigned to the team's American Hockey League affiliate. "It's more of him getting more minutes and playing more games, get his quickness and pace and confidence back where it needs to be, and then he'll be back playing for us," General Manager Don Maloney said. "Whether...

Patten’s Plus-Minus: Nashville Predators vs. Phoenix Coyotes

The best and worst from Nashville’s 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night. Plus: Marek Mazanec has been simply outstanding in net over the past two weeks. For a player who had never even appeared on an NHL roster until three weeks ago, Mazanec has stepped up into the role that has been given to him. Over his past five games, Mazanec is 4-1-0 with a .950 save percentage...

Nashville Predators release awesome American highlight video

I’ll admit it. If you asked me to name the hockey team from Nashville, it would take me a few beats to rattle off Predators. I’d get it. It just would take a moment. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the game. It’s nothing against the Nashville Predators. Certainly not a slight towards the franchise’s American-born players. And I, of course, would never hate on awesome...

With Leather’s Watch This: The Nashville Predators Are Feeling The Holiday Spirit

On one hand, the Nashville Predators just became my favorite sports team in the world for this awesome holiday song that they recorded for their fans. Not only does it feature a song from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but it also has guitar with five necks, and that’s exactly what I asked Santa for this Christmas. Sadly, I have a feeling that it’s just going to wind up “lost”...

Nashville Predators celebrate American players with highlight video

The Nashville Predators media department whipped up this beauty of a video after the Predators win over the Toronto Maple Leafs to celebrate their American players.  They did a great job picking what represents America in the video, nothing says America like a Hummer. [YouTube]

Paul McCann: Going to School

The Nashville Predators posted a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes last night on the strength of a three goal outburst in the first period in one of those strange games where every goal went into the same net. 3-0 has been a dangerous lead in the past, especially against Phoenix where the Preds wasted a three goal lead earlier this season on the way to a 5-4 shootout loss, but the...

Here are five things, 3 stars, post-game locker room video and highlights from Monday night's game between the Nashville Predators and Phoenix Coyotes...

Wilson snake-bitten against Coyotes

Colin Wilson was arguably Nashville's best player on Monday night in their 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes but wasn't rewarded with a goal. Here's our story...
