No matter how much Mike Rizzo says his first baseman next year will be Adam LaRoche it means nothing if Washington Nationals ownership truly wants Prince Fielder. According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, Nats ownership recently met with Prince’s agent Scott Boras in Washingotn. Ladson’s source also says that ownership, not Rizzo, has final say on whether Fielder is signed. The Nationals are in the Prince Fielder sweepstakes, according to a baseball source, and ownership recently visited with Fielder’s agent, Scott Boras, in the nation’s capital. It is believed the Nationals are in competition with the Mariners and Cubs. There were reports that the Rangers were also in the running for Fielder’s services, but the source believes Texas will stick with Mitch Moreland at first base. The source indicated that Nationals ownership will make the final decision on whether the club signs Fielder. It’s not known how many years or how much money Washington is ...

Should The Nationals Sign Prince Fielder?

One offseason removed from signing Jayson Werth to a 7 year, $126 million contract, the Washington Nationals are looking poised to make another splash. They are going strong in the bidding for Prince Fielder, and considering that they are reworking their television contract to get at least double the amount of money they are currently receiving ($26 million/year), they certainly...

Prince Fielder, Opt-Outs, And A Contract I Would Support

It’s no secret that I’ve been generally opposed to the idea of giving Prince Fielder a long term, big money contract. I think his value on the field is fairly overrated and the side benefits of having him on the team are mostly made up and unsupported by facts. In general, I’d rather the team spread their money around to fill multiple holes and upgrade the roster...

Scott Boras on Prince Fielder: “There’s a lot of passengers on the PF Flyer”

If Scott Boras said so, it must be true.

Fielder Seeking Opt-Out Clause?

Yesterday we learned from Scott Boras that "there's a lot of passengers on the PF Flyer," and Prince Fielder is best described as a combination of Henry Kissinger and Frank Howard (courtesy of Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post).  The latest on the PF Flyer... Many in the industry believe Boras seeks an opt-out clause for Fielder, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX...

Looking Back: The Brien Taylor Story

Most of us spent the holidays with friends and family, celebrating the New Year and making resolutions we probably won’t keep. Brien Taylor was busy celebrating his 40th birthday the day after Christmas, two decades after the Yankees made him the first overall pick in the 1991 draft. “I’ve been through 28 drafts,” said Scott Boras back in 2006, “and...

Mets Face A Difficult Start

It won’t take long to figure out the 2012 Mets. The team entering spring training without expectations – at least positive ones – face a difficult schedule despite 13 games at Citi Field and ten on the road. That includes everybody in their division, so we’ll have an idea of how they’ll stack up against the NL East. I looked at their schedule this afternoon and if things...
