Final score: Minnesota Twins (28-29) 1 - Seattle Mariners 2 (27-29)
Box Score

The road woes continue for the Minnesota Twins, as the Mariners squeak out another tight win, powered by brilliant pitching and timely hitting. Ken Griffey Jr. hits a double to score Ichiro in the bottom of the 8th inning to break up the tie, and David Aardsma saves his 9th game in 10 tries.

The table was set by another brilliant start by Jarrod Washburn, who goes 6 strong innings, only giving up one run and one walk, striking out 6, on this 6th day of the 6th month.

Now, almost half of the Mariners' games have been decided by one run (27 out of 56 total games), and the M's are playing a little over .500 ball in those games. It is a definite testament to their top flight pitching (where did that come from?) and ability to get the hits they need to get when the pressure's on.

For everyone except Jarrod Washburn that is. The Mariners got their first win in 8 tries when Washburn steps onto the mound, even though he's allowed only one earned in 5 of these starts. Obviously, the hitting could be just a little timelier. Johan Santana even calls that run support pathetic.

Ichiro drove in Franklin Gutierrez in the 5th to score the Mariners' only other run.

Say what you want about how ugly the games are, but the Mariners are finding ways to get it done, and are refusing to go away in this division, holding the second best record against division opponents.

Tomorrow's rubber match should be a good one, featuring Minnesota's ace, Kevin Slowey, pitted against Erik Bedard, who is looking to continue his dominant performance of late. Hopefully the bats come out for Bedard more than they have for Washburn lately.
