By Len PasquarelliThe Sports Xchange Seven-year veteran safety O.J. Atogwe, added this week by Philadelphia, balked at suggestions his best football is behind him. Still, Atogwe, 31, hasn't been as productive in recent seasons, and there is a reason (or at least a perception) why the Eagles will represent his third team in three seasons. That said, Philly coaches still feel that Atogwe, whose 25 career interceptions are the eighth most in the league since he entered the NFL in 2005, retains the ability and instincts to make some big plays. And they got a decent insurance policy on an affordable, one-year deal. "He's not the ball magnet he once was, but he still can jump on a mistake," one Eagles coach said Thursday. In addition to his 25 interceptions, Atogwe has forced 16 fumbles in his career. His best seasons came in 2007-2008, when Atogwe totaled 13 interceptions, and he registered six forced fumbles in '08. But he's had five forced fumbles the la...

10 Eagles Firmly On Philadelphia’s Roster Bubble

Jim McIsaac / Getty Images With training camp nearly a month away, there are still plenty of cuts that need to be made before the final 53-man roster is set. Like every other team in the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles will enter camp with position battles on both sides of the ball. They currently have tremendous depth at wide receiver, as well as the defensive line.  However, the...

Philadelphia Eagles safety battle heats up with Atogwe signing

Safety Oshiomogho (O.J.) Atogwe signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and knows that he will need to hit the ground running in order to get up to speed on learning the team’s defense without the benefit of OTAs and minicamp, all of which have passed. But it’s a challenge he’s ready to face. “I’ve been fortunate in my career to be able to pick up defenses quickly...

Eagles Briefs: Rankings for LeSean McCoy and Mike Vick are in

Running back LeSean McCoy was the last member of the Philadelphia Eagles to be featured on the NFL Network’s countdown of the league’s top 100 players of 2012. Shady came in at number 18. Though McCoy wasn’t as displeased about his rating as quarterback Mike Vick, the opinions of his peers are still important to him. And he plans to prove them wrong in next year’s countdown...

Atogwe Helps Eagles Shore Up Weak Safety Position

I have undoubtedly heaped a lot of praise on the Philadelphia Eagles recently. It’s actually very out of character for me, whether you realize it or not. Their solid offseason and organizational changes in philosophy are things that I have chronicled well for you. There was only one thing that kept sticking in my crawl. The one weakness that the Eagles seemed to overlook this offseason...

Veteran safety O.J. Atogwe finally landed with a team for the 2012 season, agreeing to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal. Jim Irsay: We're close on Andrew Luck contract

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay took to his favorite medium, Twitter, to refute a report by Len Pasquarelli that the Colts and their number one draft pick Andrew Luck were having some troubles regarding his contract negotiations. The report claimed Luck's representatives and the Colts were beefing over details of Luck's off-field endorsements. Irsay, via twitter

Patriots' offensive line could face a challenge

By Len PasquarelliThe Sports Xchange Dante Scarnecchia, the venerable New England assistant head coach/offensive line, could have his work cut out for him in 2012. Left tackle Matt Light has retired after 11 seasons and will be replaced by second-year veteran and former first-rounder Nate Solder. The incumbent right tackle, Sebastian Vollmer, continued to be bothered in the offseason...

Look for 49ers' WRs to complement each other more

By Len PasquarelliThe Sports Xchange Some might call Michael Crabtree's performance in three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers a disappointment since being the 10th overall player chosen in the 2009 draft. But his supporters on the coaching staff have pointed out that Crabtree hasn't yet played with a complementary wide receiver who had more than 52 catches in a season...

Vikes' Harvin situation gets more confounding

By Len PasquarelliThe Sports Xchange Since even close associates of Percy Harvin were confused this week by the wide receiver's one-day boycott of the Minnesota minicamp -- other than to say that the absence was not contract-related -- the source of the three-year veteran's unhappiness with his situation is curious. Compounding the confusion was the Friday morning report...
