NFL Fans Really Need to Pay More Attention to Greg Lewis

On September 27, 2009, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Lewis caught a 32-yard game-winning touchdown pass from newly-acquired quarterback Brett Favre. After the 27-24 win, Favre didn't even know that Lewis was on the roster. All he did was throw to some kid with a number 17 plastered on his purple chest. But after that touchdown pass, people now know who Greg Lewis is...again. For right now, people need to pay so much more attention to Greg Lewis. Greg Lewis never had the fame like Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, Randy Moss, and other receivers had. In 2003, he was undrafted out of Illinois as he was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles. With the Eagles, he spent his next six years with them, bleeding green passionately. Lewis became famous with Philly during the 2004-05 season as he was the first wide receiver in Philly's history to catch a touchdown pass in a Super Bowl. Lewis's best season came in the 2005-06 season, as he caught 48 passes for 561 yards along with one touchdown. One of the best games I saw with Lewis was during the 2007-08 season, and that's when fame returned to Lewis. Again, not many people heard of Lewis ever since the Super Bowl, not even myself. I thought he wasn't on Bleeding Green Nation's roster during the 2007 season. But during Week Twelve, in which the Patriots were rolling towards a 16-0 record, the Eagles played tough. It seemed that Philadelphia would have been slaughtered in this game without Donovan McNabb, and with A.J. Feeley starting this game, it made things worse as people predicted the outcome of this game in a not-so very good ending. Greg Lewis came in, and he was on fire in that game, as he caught four passes for 88 yards along with two touchdowns. He had one score for 28 yards and another for 18. NFL fans began to pay more attention to Greg, but nothing that magical happened for the season for him as much as the game he had against New England in the 31-28 loss. Lewis had a good six seasons in Philly, catching 127 passes for 1,699 yards along with seven touchdowns in his career with the team. He then went on to be traded to the team he had a great game against: The New England Patriots. I thought Lewis would make some good contributions to the team but he was eventually released on September 5. With the NFL season starting, it seemed Lewis wouldn't be signing with a team anytime soon. Eventually, I and many others were proved wrong as he was signed by the Minnesota Vikings five days later. And then, about two weeks later, that touchdown happened. The announcer was yelling, "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! WELCOME TO THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS, GREG LEWIS!" Yes, welcome Greg. It seems that Favre will now be paying more attention to Lewis now that he didn't know that Lewis was in the huddle during the play in which the magical play happened. The Minnesota Vikings should be glad they picked up Greg Lewis. This game-winning touchdown catch is his first, let's give it here for a couple more down the road!
