Things can turn for the worse in a few seconds in this new age of social media and rumor mills. For months, we’ve been hearing about Victor Cruz and the New York Giants almost certainly coming to an agreement on a new deal, it was just about when. Things have began to stall for the Pro Bowl wide receiver and the Giants, and now both parties are getting antsy. Owner John Mara fired the first salvo when he hinted that Cruz is starting to ask for too much money. Now according to the New York Daily News, Cruz could be hinting towards a holdout, even though he hasn’t suggested such a thing. “I have no answer to that,” Cruz said when asked if he would consider a holdout. Cruz had always suggested that he would never hold out and he loves playing for the Giants. Things could now turn ugly, though. If Cruz doesn’t have a new deal by March 12, he could become a restricted free agent. The Giants could place a $2.89 first-round million tender on him. In that instance, if a team signed Cruz and gave him a long-term deal, they would have to give the Giants a first-round pick. Things will continue to get interesting.
