UFC Nick Diaz

UFC president Dana White confirmed Tuesday night that Nick Diaz (Pictured) and Carlos Condit had agreed to an immediately rematch. However, most were baffled when the sequel was scrapped less than 24 hours after his announcement.

Early Thursday morning, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer stated at least one “UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit” fighter had failed their drug test. Guess who just flunked another screening courtesy of marijuana?

Diaz now faces a year-long suspension and could be fined 40% of his $200,000 ‘show purse.’

This isn’t an isolated incident for Diaz. Following his upset victory over Takanori Gomi at Pride 33, the NSAC had overturned his win to a no contest after traces of THC were found in his system.

In addition, Diaz was slated to battle Jay Hieron for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title in August of 2009. However, he pulled a no-show for a mandatory drug test and was yanked from the event after failing to obtain a license.

Cesar Gracie subsequently revealed his client “would have tested positive for cannabis” if he had provided a urinalysis, so he opted to ditch the test in order to avoid a year-long suspension.

Diaz has never been shy about expressing his undying love for medical marijuana. In fact, in 2009 the troubled 28-year-old detailed exactly how he goes about cleansing his system.

“I’m happy to get loaded, hear some good music … I remain consistent,” Diaz told the LATimes. And I have an easy way to deal with [the drug tests].

“I can pass a drug test in eight days with herbal cleansers. I drink 10 pounds of water and sweat out 10 pounds of water every day. I’ll be fine.”

UFC 143 took place this past Saturday inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Nevada.
