Northern Illinois earned the first BCS bowl bid in school history where they will play Florida State in the Orange Bowl, SI.com reported Sunday. The official announcement won’t be made until later tonight.
With a 12-1 record and a second straight MAC title, NIU moved up to No. 15 in the BCS poll to qualify for the bid, according to Pete Thamel of SI.com, who attributed the report to an inside source.
The Huskies lone loss was the season opener versus the lowly Iowa Hawkeyes. They are a very underrated team with an especially efficient passer and explosive playmaker in QB Jordan Lynch. FSU will be heavily favored.

It was acold evening in Charlotte for the ACC championship game. Not so much for me and my northern blood traveling south for the day, but certainly for anyone from the deeper south than I. Like Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher, for instance.
Moments after the final seconds ticked off the clock to wrap up Florida State’s first ACC championship since 2005, holding on to beat...
Northern Illinois' BCS Berth in the Orange Bowl to face ACC Champion Florida State was not too surprising to me. I had them projected in early morning hours on Sunday in contradiction to projections of ESPN and CBS. ESPN analysts seemed shocked and angered, especially Kirk Herbstreit. Northern Illinois became the first MAC team to earn a BCS Bowl berth. On the ESPN BCS Selection...

Will Jordan Lynch leave some "Drops of Jupiter" all over the Orange Bowl?
As expected, the BCS announced Sunday night that college football blue bloods Notre Dame and Alabama will play for the national title in Miami on Jan. 8. The rest of the BCS bowls, however, won’t exactly move the needle.
Whatever follow-up the Orange Bowl has planned for last year’s...
The Huskies of Northern Illinois capped off their regular season with a dramatic double overtime victory over Kent State in the MAC title, 44-37.
Instead of everybody congratulating the Huskies or talking about how they put together their best season in program history at 12-1, everybody is inappropriately bashing them.
They may be one of the least known or talented...
Spencer Keith scrambled to his right but could only loft a desperation pass to the end zone.
Outplayed for most of the night, Kent State finally ran out of comebacks when the ball was intercepted.
Jordan Lynch ran for three touchdowns, including a 2-yarder in the second overtime, and Demetrius Stone's interception in the end zone gave No. 19 Northern Illinois a 44-37 victory...
