The Eddie Kranepool Society:
Boy I am going miss Rangers-Flyers 24/7 now that the Winter Classic is over and the last of the four episodes has aired. What I’ll miss the most is the John Tortorella between period’s motivational speeches (My co-workers are worn out with me screaming ********** screw it on straight will ya” but I have fallen in love with that phrase) and the way Coach Torts uses the video to show mistakes and make the necessary correction in a group setting. In this past episode, Torts brought the whole Rangers team to a conference room at the hotel they were staying at in Sunrise, Florida for their game against the Panthers. He went over missed assignments and sloppy postioning during their win against the Washington Caps. The funny part was when the projector went out and video coordinator Jerry Dineen found himself in the crosshairs of the Wrath of Torts but what I thought about as I was watching this scene was “do baseball teams use their video capabilities like that”? And if they don’t what ...

Mets Notes: Cedeno, Hairston, 40-man issues and CRG
The Mets have reached agreement with infielder Ronny Cedeno on a one-year deal, worth just north of $1 million. The Mets had no backup shortstop on the roster so Cedeno certainly fills a need. He’s very good insurance in case Ruben Tejada regresses or if Daniel Murphy gets injured again.
Cedeno is not much with the bat in his hands, as he has a lifetime OPS+ of 68 in 2,309...
Roster discussion- Two need to go...
This week the Mets signed two players to major league contracts, Scott Hairston is believed to have already been to NY for his physical and Ronny Cedeno's contract is awaiting a physical. With Mets roster already at 40 they need to make two moves; they can cut players outright, DFA a player hope they can make it through waivers and accept the assignment ( if they have the option...
Mets News: FMart To Apply At KMart?
It is being reported that the New York Mets have finally decided to part ways with this generations Alex Escobar. The Mets reportedly have place Fernando FMart Marinez and Daniel Herrera on waivers. Martinez, signed as a 16 year old out of the Dominican Republic, was highly touted by scouts and former Mets GM Omar Minaya. Unfortunately like Escobar, Martinez has been unable to live up to
Is 200 Innings The Be-All-End-All For Starting Pitchers?
How valuable is Mike Pelfrey to the Mets rotation? I’ve often had this debate with a couple of guys I work with who are addicted to the Mets like I am. Depending on who you ask, you’ll come across many who will say we need Pelfrey because he gives us innings? And while that’s true, somewhat, what’s the big turn-on here if the majority of those innings...
Mets Waive F-Mart and Herrera
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York. Fernando Martinez and Daniel Herrera have both been put on waivers.
Earlier today, Rubin warned that the Mets still needed to clear two spots from their full 40-man roster to make room for recent signings Scott Hairston and Ronny Cedeno.
Martinez, 23, has faded as a prospect because of continual leg injuries. Even when healthy,...
New York Mets Cautiously Optimistic About Johan Santana’s Return
As we all know, the New York Mets were dealt a tremendous blow last year when ace Johan Santana had to undergo surgery to repair a torn capsule in his left shoulder. This type of injury has not treated pitchers well – Mark Prior and Jake Peavy are two of the better known names in recent history to suffer through a similar injury. With all of that said, even an 80-85% shell...
Workplace Confidential: “We’ve Become The Oakland A’s”

The future for Jason Bay
In his column for the Boston Globe, Nick Cafardo lists Jason Bay among eight players he expects to “come back big in 2012.”
In 123 games in 2011, Bay hit .245 with a .329 OBP, 12 home runs and 57 RBI and a career-low .703 OPS. However, he hit .313 with a .954 OPS after September 1 and was named NL Player of the Week for September 5-11.
Bay just completed the second year...
Fan e-Mail: The Moneyball Mets
Hey Matt,
I have to be honest and say I had no hope for the Mets in 2012… not just because of the loss of Jose Reyes, but in realizing that Ownership will not spend money to improve this team. That being said, I got a chance to watch Moneyball on DVD last night. The movie was pretty good, but what I really got out of it is that spending money is only one way of running a baseball...
R.A Dickey is two days into his Mt. Kilimanjaro climb
“Our party is two days into the climb, and we have reached an altitude of 11,300 feet. We started on the Lemosho route up the western side of the mountain in the Lemosho glades at 825 feet and hiked through a mountainous rain forest with monkeys playing overhead. … Although we climbed almost 8,500 feet, the hiking on day one was taxing but not terribly tough. We pulled...
Who wrote NYM’s Workplace Confidential about Mets?
In a post to NY Magazine’s Workplace Confidential series, an anonymous ‘Met’ writes:
“It’s really sad to see what the Mets have become: A great franchise, on the biggest stage in sports, is now a laughingstock. … We’ve become the Oakland A’s. We’re the Pittsburgh Pirates. Our fans deserve better than that. You can’t possibly build a dynasty...
